Organizational Learning in the Morbidity and Mortality Conference.

Introduction: The focus of morbidity and mortality conferences (M&MCs) has shifted to emphasize quality improvement and systems-level care. However, quality improvement initiatives targeting systems-level errors are challenged by learning in M&MCs, which occurs at the individual attendee level and not at the organizational level. Here, we aimed to describe how organizational learning in M&MCs is optimized by particular organizational and team cultures.

Background: The transition from pediatric to adult care is a critical time when adolescent patients and their families face many challenges. This period can be associated with an increase in disease-related morbidity and mortality. The aim of our study is to identify gaps in transition-related care to help guide areas for improvement.

Micropatterned biofunctional lubricant-infused surfaces promote selective localized cell adhesion and patterning.

Micropatterned biofunctional surfaces provide a wide range of applications in bioengineering. A key characteristic which is sought in these types of bio-interfaces is prevention of non-specific adhesion for enhanced biofunctionality and targeted binding. Lubricant-infused omniphobic coatings have exhibited superior performance in attenuating non-specific adhesion; however, these coatings completely block the surfaces and do not support targeted adhesion or patterning.
