Effect of Radiotherapy on the Type and Timing of Breast Reconstruction After Mastectomy in Breast Cancer Patients.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer type among women according to the World Health Organization data. While breast-conserving surgery has been increasingly performed in patients with early-stage breast cancer, unilateral or bilateral mastectomy is still performed in many patients. With the changes in mastectomy techniques and the development of breast reconstruction techniques over the years, today the aim of breast reconstruction is to create breast tissue in a shape and symmetry that will correct the anatomical defect that occurs after mastectomy, without affecting the patient's oncological treatment.

Breast Cancer Recurrence in Initially Clinically Node-Positive Patients Undergoing Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy After Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy in the NEOSENTITURK-Trials MF18-02/18-03.

Background: This study aims to identify factors predicting recurrence and unfavorable prognosis in cN+ patients who have undergone sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) following neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC).

Methods: The retrospective multi-centre "MF18-02" and the prospective multi-centre cohort registry trial "MF18-03" (NCT04250129) included patients with cT1-4N1-3M0 with SLNB+/- axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) post-NAC.

Results: A total of 2407 cN+ patients, who later achieved cN0 status after NAC and subsequently underwent SLNB, were studied.

Objectives: Mastalgia is a medical condition that primarily affects women of all age groups. Affected individuals experience excruciating pain, tightness, or a burning sensation in the breast tissue. The aim of this study is to compare the outcomes of patients who underwent Lichtenstein repair (LR), which is currently the most commonly used open surgical procedure to repair inguinal hernias, and laparoscopic totally extraperitoneal (TEP) repair with regard to postoperative cosmesis, patient satisfaction, pain, and inflammatory response. The study consisted of male patients 18-65 years of age, who were operated for inguinal hernia with two different methods between February 2022 and January 2023 in the general surgery clinic of Elazig Fethi Sekin City Hospital.

The change in incidence of breast cancer by stage: how is it changed after the COVID-19 pandemic? A single-center retrospective study.

Aim: The impact of COVID-19 pandemic is pronounced in each healthcare process, including the management of breast cancer. The anxiety of COVID-19 changes patient preferences and some delay in routine controls and surgical managements occur. Some disintegration in medical care is to be expected during the pandemic, but the new coping strategies are needed in order to avoid delayed diagnosis of breast cancer.

Background In this study, we identified preoperative risk factors, including imaging features and blood tests, to predict conversion from laparoscopic appendectomy to open appendectomy. Thus, we aimed to prevent patients from being exposed to the risks of laparoscopy by choosing patients for whom proceeding directly to an open surgery as an initial approach was appropriate. Patients and methods The cohort of 632 patients who underwent laparoscopic appendectomy due to acute appendicitis in our center between January 2017 and March 2021 were analyzed, and 521 of these patients comprised the study population.

Management of the Axilla and the Breast After Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy in Patients with Breast Cancer: A Systematic Review.

Giant parathyroid adenoma diagnosed by brown tumour, a clinical manifestation of primary hyperparathyroidism: A case report.

Brown tumour (BT) is the pathological expression of osteitis fibrosa cystica which is caused due to primary and secondary hyperparathyroidism (HPT). It is a rare benign lesion of skeletal system that usually affects the facial bones, clavicles, ribs, pelvis and extremities. The purpose of this case report is to present the clinical, pathological and radiological findings of BT - rarely seen in adults - originating from the giant parathyroid adenoma and emerging as the first clinical sign of HPT.

Simple Blood Tests May Be Used to Predict the Increased Risk of Conversion in Elective Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy Surgery.

In this study, we aimed to evaluate the possibility if simple blood tests that can be made in majority of hospitals may be used predict to risk of conversion to laparoscopic surgery to an open approach. The hospital records of 636 patients who underwent elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy (L-C) were retrospectively reviewed, and 583 patients included in the study protocol. Preoperative laboratory tests of all patients and data of patients who underwent conversion from laparoscopic surgery to open surgery were examined.

Thyroid hemiagenesis is a rare entity in the literature. Developmental hemi-thyroid anomalies can result from either an abnormal descent or an agenesis of one lobe of the thyroid gland. This study aimed at presenting a thyroid hemiagenesis case incidentally diagnosed by neck ultrasonography (USG), who had complaints of pain and swelling in the neck.

Effects of the Folk Medicinal Plant Extract Ankaferd BloodStopper on the Healing of Colon Anastomosis: An Experimental Study in a Rat Model.

Objectives: Ankaferd BloodStopper (ABS) is a topical hemostatic agent that modulates the inflammatory response and accelerates wound healing. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of ABS on the colon anastomosis wound healing in a rat model.

Methods: Thirty-two Wistar albino rats were divided into four groups as follows: Group A (n=8), left colonic anastomosis plus ABS treatment (sacrificed on the 3 day); Group B (n=8) (control), left colonic anastomosis (sacrificed on the 3 day); Group C (n=8), left colonic anastomosis plus ABS treatment (sacrificed on the 7 day); and Group D (n=8) (control), left colonic anastomosis (sacrificed on the 7 day).

Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the effects of intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) on the prevalence of vocal cord palsy (VCP) in thyroid surgery.

Methods: Data from 493 patients (839 nerves at risk [NAR]) who underwent thyroid surgery between July 2014 and May 2016 were retrospectively evaluated. The patients were divided into 2 groups: Group 1 (G1) consisted of patients who underwent surgery without IONM, whereas group 2 (G2) consisted of patients who underwent surgery with IONM.
