Meat deterioration during processing, distribution, and display can compromise the quality and safety of products, causing several undesirable changes and decreasing products' shelf-life, which has a negative impact on the industry and consumers. In recent years, studies have been carried out using decontamination techniques and new packaging methodologies to overcome deterioration problems, increase sustainability, and reduce waste. Edible films and coatings obtained from biopolymers such as polysaccharides, proteins, and lipids, combined with active compounds, can be an alternative approach.

(1) Background: The prevalence of coxarthrosis associated with ageing is one of the main reasons for the increase in hip arthroplasty. Educational intervention in the pre- and postoperative period of hip arthroplasty can improve functionality and, consequently, quality of life. Therefore, we intend to map the educational interventions that improve the functional capacity of people undergoing hip arthroplasty on their rehabilitation process.

Corticosteroids have been used since the 50s as anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive drugs for the treatment of several pathologies such as asthma, allergy, rheumatoid arthritis, and dermatological disorders. Corticosteroids have three principal mechanisms of action: 1) inhibit the synthesis of inflammatory proteins blocking NF-kB, 2) induce the expression of anti-inflammatory proteins by IkB and MAPK phosphatase I, and 3) inhibit 5-lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase-2. The efficacy of glucocorticoids in alleviating inflammatory disorders results from the pleiotropic effects of the glucocorticoid receptors on multiple signaling pathways.

Introduction: Pharmacovigilance (PV) is designed to monitor drugs continuously after their commercialization, assessing and improving their safety profile. The main objective is to increase the spontaneous reporting of adverse drug reactions (ADRs), in order to have a wide variety of information. The Italian Drug Agency (Agenzia Italiana del Farmaco [AIFA]) is financing several projects to increase reporting.

Hypericum perforatum (HP) belongs to the Hypericaceae family and is one of the oldest used and most extensively investigated medicinal herbs. The medicinal form comprises the leaves and flowering tops of which the primary ingredients of interest are naphthodianthrones, xanthones, flavonoids, phloroglucinols (e.g.

Methotrexate (MTX) is a nonbiological disease-modifying antirheumatic drug that has shown both a good control of clinical disease and a good safety. Usually drug-drug interactions (DDIs) represent the most limiting factor during the clinical management of any disease, in particular when several drugs are coadministered to treat the same disease. In this paper, we report the interactions among MTX and the other drugs commonly used in the management of rheumatoid arthritis.

Aberrant signalling through the pathways of small GTP-binding proteins, belonging to the Ras superfamily (Ras, Rho, Rac, Cdc42 etc.), occurs in several types of cancer, where mutated Ras accumulates in its GTP-bound active form and causes uncontrolled cell proliferation. For these reasons, molecules able to target the Ras pathway in any of its stages are potentially useful in anti-cancer therapies.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed immune cells in 19 children with coeliac disease on a gluten-free diet, using specific monoclonal antibodies to identify various T lymphocyte subsets and monocytes.
  • While there were no significant differences in immune cell percentages between coeliac patients and healthy controls, coeliac patients showed a notable reduction in IgG receptor-positive cells.
  • Functional tests indicated that a majority of the coeliac patients' immune cells struggled to suppress certain responses effectively, hinting at a possible malfunction in immune regulation that could contribute to coeliac disease.

Article Synopsis
  • Immunoregulatory T cell subsets were studied in children with HBsAg-positive chronic active hepatitis, revealing a lower helper to suppressor/cytotoxic cell ratio compared to healthy controls.
  • The decreased ratio was primarily due to an increase in suppressor/cytotoxic lymphocytes, especially in severe cases of chronic hepatitis.
  • Treatment with azathioprine and prednisone appeared to help some patients normalize their helper/suppressor ratio, suggesting potential therapeutic effects on immune regulation in chronic hepatitis.
