Background/objectives: Endometriosis (END) is a painful gynecological condition. Clinical examination, imaging, and laparoscopy can provide a definitive diagnosis of END. Nonetheless, non-invasive biomarkers could help enhance and streamline the diagnostic process.

Article Synopsis
  • Cervical cancer poses a major health risk for younger women, and tools like cold knife (CK) and carbon dioxide (CO) laser conization are used to treat pre-invasive lesions with the intent to cure incidental cervical cancer cases.
  • A study involving 1,270 women showed that CO laser conization had a significantly lower rate of positive margins compared to CK conization (4.3% vs. 13.3%).
  • Both techniques demonstrated similar oncological safety in cases of incidental cervical cancer diagnosis, with no recurrences noted after an average follow-up period of 53 months, and CO laser conization generally proved more effective at achieving clean margins.

Background: Almost 10% of women in reproductive age are diagnosed with ovarian endometriomas and can experience symptoms and infertility disorders. Ovarian endometriomas can be treated with medical or surgical therapy.

Objective: To assess whether long-term therapy with dienogest or oral cyclic estrogen-progestogens is effective in reducing the size of ovarian endometriomas, alleviating associated symptoms, and reducing the requirement for surgery.

Background: Mesonephric adenocarcinoma (MA) of the vagina is a rare tumor that arises from mesonephric remnants (Wolffian) in the female genital tract. It is a neoplasm with no significant evidence about its diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and prognosis.

Methods: Systematic research of the literature was conducted in Scopus, PubMed/MEDLINE, ScienceDirect and the Cochrane Library, including observational prospective and retrospective studies, case series and case reports.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to analyze complications associated with laparoscopic surgery using a gasless optical trocar at a tertiary care center in Italy.
  • Out of 7,431 surgical procedures performed over 17 years, the overall complication rate was found to be low at 0.31%, with specific major complications occurring very rarely.
  • The results suggest that the optical gasless trocar is a viable and safer option for laparoscopic entry compared to traditional methods, showing a lower complication rate than what has been previously reported.

Study Objective: The effect of the different types of vaginal cuff closures on posthysterectomy sexual function has not been investigated in depth. We evaluated if there is a difference between transvaginal versus a laparoscopic closure after total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH) on female sexual function, using a validated questionnaire.

Design: Secondary analysis of a prospective randomized controlled trial.

Introduction And Hypothesis: A 42-year-old female presented with a 12-cm mass bulging the anterior vaginal wall and causing urgency urinary incontinence and bulk symptoms.

Methods: Imaging showed a tumor originating from the dorsal and cranial part of the urethra and developing in the vesicouterine space and vesicovaginal septum, dislocating the bladder ventrally and the uterus cranial-dorsally.

Results: Tranvaginal biopsy showed a benign leiomyoma.

Background: To asses the results of laparoscopic surgical treatment of bowel endometriosis with transvaginal resection of the rectum employing ultrasonic energy retrospective study.

Method: 100 patients with symptoms of narrowing or partial obstruction of colon were submitted to laparoscopic resection of rectosigmoid tract through a vaginal route. Length of surgery, blood loss, histopathological extent of rectal invasion, surgical complications, and length of hospital stay were the main analyzed outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • * Doctors compared two ways to stitch up this area – through the vagina and with tiny cameras called laparoscopic surgery, to see which method causes fewer problems.
  • * The results showed that more women in the vaginal stitching group had issues (2.7%) compared to the laparoscopic group (1%), meaning laparoscopic might be safer for preventing tearing afterwards.

Teratomas of extragonadal origin are extremely rare, and the most common extragonadal site to find teratomas is the omentum. Teratomas are typically found in women of reproductive age, but they are also seen in young girls and postmenopausal women. Generally, teratomas arise from germ cells that may induce different cells to originate from the 3 primitive embryonic layers.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine both human papillomavirus (HPV) prevalence and type distribution in cervical specimens of women with cytological abnormalities and to establish the association with high-grade lesions and cervical neoplasia in order to estimate the impact of an HPV vaccine in this region.

Methods: Four hundred and ninety-three cervical specimens obtained from women undergoing routine cervical screening by liquid-based Pap smear were analyzed by Roche linear array HPV genotyping to identify HPV genotypes.

Results: HPV 16 was the genotype detected most frequently, followed by HPV 31, 33 and 52.

We report a case of adnexal torsion in a singleton pregnancy at 27 weeks of gestation. Adnexal torsion during pregnancy is a rare condition, and it is quite exceptional during the third trimester. The symptoms are non-specific and can be confused with other acute abdominal disorders.

Infection with human papillomavirus (HPV) is a necessary step in the progression to cervical cancer. Many methods for HPV testing are currently available, mostly developed to detect pools of HPV types. Hybrid Capture 2 (HC2) is one of the most widely used.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare the outcomes of total laparoscopic radical hysterectomy (TLRH) and laparoscopic pelvic lymphadenectomy (LPS) with traditional total abdominal radical hysterectomy (TARH) and pelvic lymphadenectomy (LPT) regarding urinary complications.
  • Results showed no significant differences in intraoperative urinary injuries or postoperative urinary retention between the two surgical approaches.
  • The width of the parametrium removed during surgery did not influence the risk of urinary complications or retention in either group.

Objective: To compare the surgicopathologic outcome of total laparoscopic radical hysterectomy (LRH) with that of abdominal radical hysterectomy (ARH) for the treatment of early-stage cervical cancer.

Methods: Radical hysterectomy specimens of sequential patients undergoing LRH (N=50) were compared with those of historical controls selected from consecutive women who have had conventional ARH (N=48), and who met the same criteria for eligibility as the cases. To evaluate the extent of parametrial resection, parametrial tissues were systematically measured at their widest dimensions before tissue processing.

The prevalence of single and multiple HPV infections was assessed over a cohort of 213 women with cytological abnormalities and its association with cervical neoplasia established. Roche linear array HPV genotyping test was used to identify HPV genotypes. The most prevalent HPV genotypes in cervical cancer samples were HPV16 (61.

Human papillomaviruses (HPVs) are etiological agents of cervical cancer. In order to assess the epidemiological incidence and frequency of different HPV types, we applied a polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-direct sequencing approach based on the use of MY09/MY11 primers as compared to Hybrid Capture assay. Cervical samples were taken from 1,500 women, both with normal and abnormal cytological smears, and we found an incidence of 6.

Background: Treatment options for anogenital warts in patients with HIV-1 are unsatisfactory because they fail to eradicate latent human papillomavirus.

Goal: To determine tolerability and efficacy of topical 1% cidofovir cream for the treatment of external anogenital warts in HIV-infected patients.

Study Design: A randomized, placebo-controlled, single-blind, crossover pilot study of either 1% cidofovir cream or placebo applied once daily 5 days a week for 2 weeks followed by 2 weeks of observation was performed.

From October 1989 to June 1997, 1841 patients (pts) suffering from different diseases of the lower genital tract have been treated with CO2 laser surgery in our Institution: among them, 782 were affected by cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN). All pts underwent CO2 laser procedure for CIN after adequate colposcopic evaluation of the entire lower genital tract, colposcopic guided biopsy of the lesion, adequate pre-surgical work-up for possible infectious and coagulation associated disease. In 736 (94.
