Imaging of parotid tumors is crucial for surgery planning, but it cannot distinguish malignant from benign lesions with absolute reliability. The aim of the study was to establish a diagnostic MRI algorithm to differentiate parotid tumors. A retrospective study was conducted including all patients with parotid tumors, who underwent 3T-MRI and surgery.

Pathological assessment often plays a key role in reaching a definite diagnosis of cardiac or aortic vasculitis, particularly when the clinical evidence of a systemic inflammatory disease is missing.

Merkel Cell Polyomavirus (MCPyV), well known to be the causative agent of Merkel Cell Carcinoma (MCC) has been found in OSCC, suggesting its potential role as a co-factor in the development of oral cavity cancers. To improve our understanding about MCPyV in oral cavities, the detection and analysis of MCPyV DNA, transcripts and miRNA were performed on OSCCs and oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs).

Preoperative lymph node (LN) mapping is a structured high-resolution ultrasonography examination performed in the presence of two endocrinologists and the operating surgeon before intervention to produce a reliable "anatomical guide". Our aim was to propose a preoperative complete model that is non-invasive, avoids overdiagnosis of thyroid microcarcinomas, and reduces medical expenses.

A number of clinical trials in type 2 diabetic patients with different degrees of renal impairment have clearly demonstrated that SGLT2 inhibitors reduce the progression rate of diabetic kidney disease. Furthermore, recent studies have shown that SGLT2 inhibitors also exert a protective effect in the case of non-diabetic kidney disease.

The cardioprotective effects of sodium glucose cotrasponter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors seem to be independent from the effects on glycemic control, through little-known mechanisms. In this study, we investigate whether the cardioprotective effects of empagliflozin, a SGLT2 inhibitor, may be associated with myocardial sympathetic activity and inflammatory cell infiltration in an experimental model of angiotensin II-dependent hypertension. Angiotensin II (Ang II), Ang II plus Empagliflozin, physiological saline, or physiological saline plus empagliflozin were administered to Sprague Dawley rats for two weeks.

The thoracic aorta includes the aortic root, the ascending aorta, the arch, and the descending aorta. The aorta's elastic properties depend on its wall structure, composed of three distinct histologic layers: intima, media, and adventitia.

The department's database and medical records from 2015 to 2022 were searched for patients with a confirmed diagnosis of OLP based on both clinical and histological parameters. A total of 100 patients (59 females and 41 males) were found with a mean age of 64.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of chronic angiotensin II administration on urinary calcium/phosphate excretion, bone mineral density, bone remodeling and osteoblast population in a well-established experimental model of hypertension, in the absence of possible confounding factors that could affect bone metabolism. Male Sprague-Dawley rats, divided in the following groups: (a) Angiotensin II (Ang II, 200 ng/kg/min, osmotic minipumps, sub cutis, = 8); (b) Ang II+losartan (Los, 50 mg/kg/day, , = 6); (c) control group (physiological saline, sub cutis, = 9); and (d) control+losartan ( = 6) were treated for four weeks.

We present a case of a patient in his 40s harboring two nodules in the thyroid gland that were diagnosed as well-differentiated NET (G1).

We collected subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) samples and using RT-PCR, we analyzed the expression of markers of browning and using Western blot the protein levels of UCP1 and PGC1α. The mRNA levels were lower in cancer patients vs.

Compound 21 (C21), an AT2 receptor agonist, and Angiotensin 1-7 (Ang 1-7), through Mas receptor, play an important role in the modulation of the protective arm of the renin-angiotensin system. The aim of this study was to investigate in an experimental model of angiotensin II-dependent hypertension whether the activation of the potentially protective arm of the renin-angiotensin system, through AT2 or Mas receptor stimulation, counteracts the onset of myocardial fibrosis and hypertrophy, and whether these effects are mediated by inflammatory mechanism and/or sympathetic activation. Sprague Dawley rats ( = 67) were treated for 1 ( = 25) and 4 ( = 42) weeks and divided in the following groups: (a) Angiotensin II (Ang II, 200 ng/kg/min, osmotic minipumps, sub cutis); (b) Ang II+Compound 21 (C21, 0.

We aimed at investigating histological rearrangement and infiltration of inflammatory cells in subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) of patients with cancer undergoing surgery, according to the presence/absence of cachexia.

Blue diode laser emits a 445 nm wavelength light, which is extremely effective with hemoglobin, and has an optimal hemostatic effect. This work analyzes its thermal effects and clinical efficacy, when used to perform excisional biopsies. Forty-two excisional biopsies were performed with the laser; then, the extent of perincisional thermal effects was evaluated and patients were followed up.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of preoperative intraoral ultrasonography (US) in the assessment of tumor depth of invasion (DOI) in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC).
Study Design: Records of 32 patients with biopsy-proven OSCC who underwent preoperative intraoral US were retrospectively reviewed. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), and accuracy as indicated by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis were measured for US in the assessment of the infiltration of the tumor beyond the lamina propria into the submucosa.
Pediatrics, among all the branches of medicine, is a sector not particularly affected by a high number of claims. Nevertheless, the economic value of the compensation is significantly high, for example, in cases of children who suffered multiple disabilities following perinatal lesions with a long life expectancy. In Italy, most of the claims for compensation concern surgical pathologies and infections.

The aspect focused on in this paper is the possibility to use the 445 nm diode laser (Eltech K-Laser srl, Treviso, Italy) in complete safety, by evaluating its thermal effects during microscopy. A histological evaluation of the alteration of the peri-incisional edges on 10 samples was realized.
