Maternal education prospectively predicts child neurocognitive function: An environmental influences on child health outcomes study.

A large body of research has established a relation between maternal education and children's neurocognitive functions, such as executive function and language. However, most studies have focused on early childhood and relatively few studies have examined associations with changes in maternal education over time. Consequently, it remains unclear if early maternal education is longitudinally related to neurocognitive functions in children, adolescents, and young adults.

Behavioral and Social Functioning of Children With and Without Positional Plagiocephaly: Late Infancy to School Age.

Positional plagiocephaly and/or brachycephaly (PPB) is associated with cognition, motor, and other developmental outcomes, but little is known about the social-behavioral adjustment of children with PPB. The primary aim of this study was to compare the social-behavioral development of preschool and school-age children with and without PPB and to examine the potential moderating effects of PPB severity on group differences. Two hundred twenty children with a history of PPB and 164 controls participated in at least one behavioral assessment at 4-11 months, 18 months, 36 months, and 7 years.

Exploratory Qualitative Analysis of Early Literacy Engagement in Latinx Parents of a Child With a Cleft.

Literacy interventions are needed for children born with orofacial clefts, particularly for Latinx children who may experience multiple risk factors. To collect formative data for intervention design, focus groups and interviews were completed with 18 Latinx parents of children ages 13 to 49 months with orofacial clefts. Interviews focused on literacy experiences and practices.

Evaluating the Feasibility and Acceptability of the Lifestyle Enhancement for ADHD Program.

Objective: To evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of the Lifestyle Enhancement for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Program (LEAP), a novel parent behavior management training program that promotes physical activity (PA) and positive health behaviors and is enhanced with mobile health technology (Garmin) and a social media (Facebook) curriculum for parents of children with ADHD.

Methods: The study included parents of children ages 5-10 years diagnosed with ADHD who did not engage in the recommended >60 min/day of moderate to vigorous PA based on parent report at baseline. Parents participated in the 8-week LEAP group and joined a private Facebook group.

Prediction of school-age IQ, academic achievement, and motor skills in children with positional plagiocephaly.

Introduction: Children with positional plagiocephaly and/or brachycephaly (PPB) are at risk of early developmental delay, but little is known about early life factors associated with school-age neurodevelopment. This study examined associations of demographic characteristics, prenatal risk factors and early neurodevelopment assessment with school-age IQ, academic performance, and motor development in children with PPB.

Methods: The study sample consisted of 235 school-age children with PPB followed since infancy.

Do Infant Motor Skills Mediate the Association Between Positional Plagiocephaly/Brachycephaly and Cognition in School-Aged Children?

Objective: Positional plagiocephaly/brachycephaly (PPB) is associated with lower cognitive scores in school-aged children. This study tested the hypothesis that infant motor skills mediate this association.

Methods: Children with a history of PPB (cases, n = 187) and without PPB (controls, n = 149) were followed from infancy through approximately 9 years of age.

Body image in transgender young people: Findings from a qualitative, community based study.

The goal of this study was to examine the ways in which transgender youth experience their bodies with regard to gender and body size. Ninety transgender youth and young adults completed in-depth interviews in eight metropolitan areas of the United States, Canada, and Ireland. Using a queer perspective, qualitative analyses revealed two broad conceptual categories: body dissatisfaction and body satisfaction.
