Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is strongly associated with several human cancers; the most known genotypes involved being HPV 16 and HPV 18. We report the detection of HPV 52 in a sample taken from a 47-year-old patient with squamous cell carcinoma of the conjunctiva of the left eye. The method used for the detection of HPV was real time polymerase chain reaction.

The objective of the study was to analyze the efficiency of trifluridine in the treatment of herpes infection of the cornea. The study was performed on a 60 patients group suffering of different forms of herpetic keratitis. The results of the study indicate trifluridine as an efficient antiviral drug which may be successfully used in the treatment of herpetic keratitis (superficial and stromal).

The authors present a case of a 29 year old patient who has been diagnosed on the right eye with Cogen-Reese syndrome and secondary glaucoma in 1997. This case came in the Ophtalmologic department from the lassy Railway Hospital in August 2000. For the treatment of the glaucoma and other associated complications it was realised on this eye: Cairns trabeculectomy with 5 FU, perforated keratoplasty, Laserphaco with PC-IOL, Laser selerostomy, goniotrepanation, explant of the IOL.

[Diabetic papillae].

We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of all diabetic patients with benign, transient disc swelling who were evaluated at our institution from 1992 to 1996. The clinical profile of diabetic papillopathy can be expanded to include people who are older or have type II diabetes and that affected eyes commonly have retinal vascular changes and macular edema that can adversely affect the visual outcome. Last, a small physiologic cup may represent an anatomic predisposition to the condition.
