The treatment of giant periurethral condyloma in pregnancy using an ultrasonic thermal scalpel: a case report and new single session treatment option.

Multiple large polypoid lesions with exophytic appearance occurring in anal and perineal region as a result of human papilloma virus (HPV) infection are referred to as giant condyloma acuminatum (GCA). The conventional treatment of these lesions involves the use of surgical excision, laser, electrocautery, and/or application of trichloroacetic acid. A 28-year-old primigravid patient at 22 weeks of pregnancy presented to the hospital complaining of vaginal bleeding and palpable mass in the vulva.

Baboon syndrome induced by ketoconazole.

A 27-year-old male patient presented with a maculopapular eruption on the flexural areas and buttocks after using oral ketoconazole. The patient was diagnosed with drug-induced baboon syndrome based on his history, which included prior sensitivity to topical ketoconazole, a physical examination, and histopathological findings. Baboon syndrome is a drug- or contact allergen-related maculopapular eruption that typically involves the flexural and gluteal areas.

Pustular irritant contact dermatitis caused by dexpanthenol in a child.

Pustular irritant contact dermatitis is rare and unusual clinic form of contact dermatitis. Dexpanthenol is the stable alcoholic analogue of pantothenic acid. It is widely used in cosmetics and topical medical products for several purposes.

Omentin serum levels and omentin gene Val109Asp polymorphism in patients with psoriasis.

Background: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease of uncertain pathogenesis. Omentin is a new adipokine with anti-inflammatory properties; however, the relationship between psoriasis and omentin has not been fully established yet.

Objectives: This study was designed to evaluate the relationship between psoriasis and omentin serum levels and Val109Asp polymorphism in exon 4 of the omentin gene.

Iododerma following topical povidone-iodine application.

A 43-year-old male patient presented with two well-demarcated, elevated plaques, measuring 4 cm in diameter, with yellow-black crusts over it that appeared 3 d earlier. With the help of history, physical examination and histopathological features, the patient was diagnosed with iododerma secondary to topical povidone-iodine use. Iododerma develops frequently after oral or intravenous but rarely after topical use of iodine.

Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis associated with terbinafine: a case report.

A 27-year-old male patient who has used oral terbinafine for two weeks was admitted to our outpatient clinic for non-follicular millimetric pustules on erythematous and edematous different-sized plaques on his trunk and flexural areas. He was diagnosed with acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) because of terbinafine use in the light of history, clinical and histopathological findings. An AGEP is a rare and severe pustular reaction usually triggered by systemic drug intake.

Relation of Nickel Allergy with in-Stent Restenosis in Patients Treated with Cobalt Chromium Stents.

Background: In-stent restenosis (ISR) is the major limitation of percutaneous coronary stenting procedure. The elements like nickel, chromate and molybdenum are known to cause contact allergy. Hypersensitivity reaction, against these metal ions, may be one of the reasons of ISR.

Does MBL2 codon 54 polymorphism play a role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis?

Background: Psoriasis is a T cell-mediated immune disease in which various cytokines, primarily tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), are complexly involved. Mannose-binding lectin (MBL) gene polymorphisms decrease MBL serum levels, thereby increasing the synthesis of proinflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α.

Objectives: This trial was designed to evaluate the role of the MBL2 codon 54 polymorphism in the pathogenesis of psoriasis.

Allergic contact dermatitis to para-phenylenediamine in a tattoo: a case report.

It is highly popular among children and young adults to have temporary henna tattoos on their bodies in different colors and figures. Henna is a greenish natural powder obtained from the flowers and dry leaves of Lawsonia alba plant and its allergenicity is very low. Henna is also used in combination with other coloring substances such as para-phenylenediamine in order to darken the color and create a permanent tattoo effect.

Multiple pyogenic granulomas on the face after landmine injury.

In this report, we present a 13-year-old male patient with multiple pyogenic granulomas (PG) on the face after landmine injury. To the best of our knowledge, PG after landmine injury has not been reported previously. The case has been reported in view of its rarity and its etiology.

Melkersson Rosenthal syndrome associated with ipsilateral facial, hand, and foot swelling.

Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome is a complex neuromucocutaneous disorder. A 60-year-old woman presented with granulomatous cheilitis of the lower lip, unilateral facial paralysis, and ipsilateral facial and acral swelling. The result of histopathological evaluation in extremities and inferior lip was compatible with Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome.

Sister chromatid exchange analysis in patients with psoriasis.

Psoriasis is a common, chronic inflammatory skin disease with unknown aetiology. An increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) and insufficient antioxidant activity have been determined in psoriatic lesions. The analysis of sister chromatid exchange (SCE) is a cytogenetic technique used to show DNA damage caused by an exchange of DNA fragments between sister chromatids.

The importance of local subcutaneous fat thickness in pilonidal disease.

Purpose: This study was designed to investigate the local subcutaneous fat thickness in sacrococcygeal pilonidal disease.

Methods: Subcutaneous fat thickness was measured by ultrasonography in 125 patients with sacrococcygeal pilonidal disease and 125 age-matched, body mass index-matched and gender-matched controls.

Results: The sacrococcygeal subcutaneous fat thickness was 14.

Is confluent and reticulated papillomatosis without papillomatosis early or late stage of confluent and reticulated papillomatosis?

The histologic findings of confluent and reticulated papillomatosis include papillomatosis, hyperkeratosis, and minimal or no acanthosis. We present a patient with the clinical findings of confluent and reticulated papillomatosis who responded dramatically to azithromycin, but histologic examination did not reveal papillomatosis. We observed invagination of basket-weave hyperkeratosis through the epidermis.

Frequency of sister chromatid exchanges in the lymphocytes of patients with atopic dermatitis.

The combination of genetic susceptibility and environmental factors can induce allergic sensitization and subsequent local inflammation, resulting in atopic dermatitis (AD). Sister chromatid exchange (SCE) is a sensitive method that may reflect an instability in DNA or a deficiency in DNA repair. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether patients with AD have defects in DNA repair and whether SCE frequency can be used as a genetic marker in the pathogenesis of AD.

Rapidly developing giant sized lupus vulgaris on the chest associated with bilateral scrofuloderma on the neck.

Lupus vulgaris and scrofuloderma are the opposite poles of cutaneous tuberculosis. Lupus vulgaris of a giant size and scrofuloderma in the vicinity of this lesion were both present in a 70-year-old female patient. The purified protein derivative of tuberculin (PPD) skin test was strongly positive.
