A 9-year-old Thoroughbred mare with normal external genitalia and regular oestrus symptoms was gynecologically examined prior to insemination. This primary examination revealed the presence of a hypoplastic uterus and the lack of normal ovaries, and the mare was therefore subjected to more detailed diagnostics, including endocrinological, genetic, and clinical tests. Diagnostic imaging with the use of ultrasonography and endoscopy confirmed the underdevelopment of internal genitalia.

However, Blood Glucose (BG) regulation with CGM is still hampered by limitations of algorithms and glucose sensors. Regarding sensor technology, current electrochemical glucose sensors do not capture the full spectrum of other physiological signals, .

Objective: Current treatment of type 1 diabetes by closed-loop therapy depends on continuous glucose monitoring. However, glucose readings alone are insufficient for an artificial pancreas to truthfully restore nutrient homeostasis where additional physiological regulators of insulin secretion play a considerable role. Previously, we have developed an electrophysiological biosensor of pancreatic islet activity, which integrates these additional regulators through electrical measurements.

Methods: A retrospective chart review was used to identify 63 patients (mean age, 65.3 ± 8.
Purpose: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of preoperative renal artery embolization of renal cell carcinoma in reducing intraoperative blood loss during subsequent partial nephrectomy through a systematic review and meta-analysis of current literature.
Materials And Methods: The PubMed database was searched for articles published from 1970 to 2018 describing patients with renal cell carcinoma who underwent partial nephrectomy with and without preoperative embolization of the tumor. Demographic data, procedural techniques, and surgical outcomes were obtained when available.

The paper addresses the loop shaping problem in the altitude control of an unmanned aerial vehicle to land the flying robot with a specific landing scenario adopted. The proposed solution is optimal, in the sense of the selected performance indices, namely minimum-time, minimum-energy, and velocity-penalized related functions, achieving their minimal values, with numerous experiments conducted throughout the development and preparation to the Mohamed Bin Zayed International Robotics Challenge (MBZIRC 2020). A novel approach to generation of a reference altitude trajectory is presented, which is then tracked in a standard, though optimized, control loop.

Precise information on gray mutation status is important for horse breeders and veterinarians, since gray homozygous horses are more prone to developing aggressive melanoma tumors than heterozygotes.

It focuses on the problem of fault estimation based fault tolerant control for linear uncertain system with mitigation of the reconfiguration transients. In this work, a second-order sliding mode observer is designed to reconstruct the Loss of Effectiveness (LoE) of the actuators.

This paper presents a methodology to tune an artificial pancreas controller by minimizing the time spent in endangering glycaemic ranges (hypo- and hyperglycaemia). The risk associated to the patient's glycaemia is evaluated with an objective metric (the blood glucose risk index), which has an established clinical relevance. The tuned controller is validated in the UVA/Padova environment where the resulting artificial pancreas achieves minimal glucose risk index in realistic 24-hour long scenarios with unannounced glucose intake.

As a consequence of these changes, the nail plate is blocked through the deformed tip of the toe. Changes that occur at the tip of the big toe are due to bone growth on the dorsal surface of the distal end of the distal phalanx.

As expedited development does not lessen the quality expectations, one challenge is providing adequate chemistry, manufacturing, and control (CMC) information required to support approval of a biological product. In particular, the analytical comparability and, in some cases, pharmacokinetic comparability studies needed to bridge the clinical material to the commercial material could delay submission of applications for life-saving medicines.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective chart review was performed of all patients who underwent angiography after undergoing contrast-enhanced CT imaging for the evaluation/treatment of traumatic injuries to the abdomen and pelvis between March 2014 and September 2018. Data collection included demographics, pertinent history and physical findings, CT and angiography findings, treatment information, and outcomes.
β-lactoglobulin is one of the most abundant milk whey proteins in many mammal species, including the domestic horse. The aim of this study was to screen for polymorphism in the equine LGB1 and LGB2 gene sequences (all exons, introns, and 5'-flanking region) and to assess potential relationship of particular genotypes with gene expression levels (measured in milk somatic cells) and milk composition traits (protein, fat, lactose, and total β-lactoglobulin content). Direct DNA sequencing analysis was performed for twelve horse breeds: Polish Primitive Horse (PPH), Polish Coldblood Horse (PCH), Polish Warmblood Horse (PWH), Silesian, Hucul, Fjording, Haflinger, Shetland Pony, Welsh Pony, Arabian, Thoroughbred, and Percheron-and revealed the presence of 83 polymorphic sites (47 and 36 for LGB1 and LGB2 genes, respectively), including eight that were previously unknown.

The purpose of this project was to determine if ultrasonography could be routinely used to measure gastric content and assign aspiration risk in patients undergoing general anesthesia. Preoperative gastric ultrasonography was performed in a convenience sample of 100 patients.

Adenylation enzymes play an important role in the selective incorporation of the cognate carboxylate substrates in natural product biosynthesis. Here, the biochemical and structural characterization of the adenylation enzyme IdnL7, which is involved in the biosynthesis of the macrolactam polyketide antibiotic incednine, is reported. Biochemical analysis showed that IdnL7 selects and activates several small amino acids.

Herein, we genotyped the previously identified polymorphisms within two coat color loci TBX3 (T-box 3) and ASIP (Agouti Signaling Protein) in 462 Hucul individuals and compared the genotype predicted phenotypes with observed pigmentation types provided in the Polish Horse Breeders Association database. We identified disagreement between the predicted and recorded coat color in 157 horses (34%).

In the case of the domestic horse, our knowledge of casein genes is limited mainly to coding sequence variants. This study involved screening for polymorphism in 5'-flanking regions of four genes encoding equine caseins (CSN1S1, CSN1S2, CSN2, and CSN3) and making a preliminary assessment of their effect on the gene expression (on the mRNA and protein levels) and milk composition traits in selected horse breeds.

In this paper the elemental changes of rat hippocampal formation occurring during the postnatal development were examined. Three groups of animals were used in the study. These were naive Wistar rats at the age of 6-, 30- and 60-days and the chosen life periods corresponded to the neonatal period, childhood and early adulthood in humans, respectively.

A Smooth Sliding Mode (SSM) algorithm is first designed to provide reliable estimation under a smooth disturbance assumption. This assumption is next relaxed with the second proposed Adaptive Sliding Mode (ASM) algorithm that deals with disturbances of unknown bounds.
