BiTe is a well-known thermoelectric material that was first investigated in the 1960s, optimized over decades, and is now one of the highest performing room-temperature thermoelectric materials to-date. Herein, we report on the colloidal synthesis, growth mechanism, and thermoelectric properties of BiTe nanoplates with a single nanopore in the center. Analysis of the reaction products during the colloidal synthesis reveals that the reaction progresses via a two-step nucleation and epitaxial growth: first of elemental Te nanorods and then the binary BiTe nanoplate growth.

Thermoelectrics are an important class of materials with great potential in alternative energy applications. In this study, two-dimensional (2D) nanoplates of the layered chalcogenides, SbTe and BiTe, are synthesized and composites of the two are investigated for their thermoelectric properties. An electride is a compound that contains a localized electron in an empty crystallographic site. This class of materials has a wide range of applications, including superconductivity, batteries, photonics, and catalysis. In this cross-sectional study including 1,722,479 women who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy between January 2016 and December 2019 identified in the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project's Nationwide Ambulatory Surgery Sample, the prevalence rate of gynecologic diagnoses was 11.3 per 1,000. Among presumed elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy, the highest performance rate of concurrent gynecologic procedure per gynecologic diagnosis was laparoscopic adnexectomy among patients with benign ovarian tumor (652/1,000 diagnoses), followed by laparoscopic adnexectomy for endometrioma (386/1,000 diagnoses) and cervical conization for cervical carcinoma in situ (304/1,000 diagnoses).

Thermoelectric properties of the half-Heusler phase ScNiSb (space group 4 ¯ 3) were studied on a polycrystalline single-phase sample obtained by arc-melting and spark-plasma-sintering techniques. Measurements of the thermopower, electrical resistivity, and thermal conductivity were performed in the wide temperature range 2-950 K. The material appeared as a -type conductor, with a fairly large, positive Seebeck coefficient of about 240 μV K near 450 K.

Developmental neuroimaging studies report the emergence of increasingly diverse cognitive functions as closely entangled with a rise-fall modulation of cortical thickness (CTh), structural cortical and white-matter connectivity, and a time-course for the experience-dependent selective elimination of the overproduced synapses. We examine which of two visual processing networks, the dorsal (DVN; prefrontal, parietal nodes) or ventral (VVN; frontal-temporal, fusiform nodes) matures first, thus leading the neuro-cognitive developmental trajectory. Three age-dependent measures are reported: (i) the CTh at network nodes; (ii) the matrix of intra-network structural connectivity (edges); and (iii) the proficiency in network-related neuropsychological tests.

Objective: To learn whether a version of the Medicaid Sterilization Consent Form (SCF) adapted for populations of low-literacy can help Spanish-speaking women better understand the process and consequences of tubal sterilization.

Study Design: We randomly assigned Spanish-speaking women, ages 21-45 years, to review either a "standard" or "low-literacy" version of the Medicaid SCF. We assessed sterilization-related knowledge using items from the Postpartum Tubal Sterilization Knowledge questionnaire, using as the primary outcome correct identification of least four or more knowledge items and as secondary outcome participants' preferred version of the SCF.
