The clinical effects on the udder health of several trace elements-copper, iodine, cobalt, and selenium-contained in an intraruminal slow-release bolus were explored for the first time. Fifty-four dairy cows received the bolus (treated group, TG), while fifty-three were left untreated (control group, CG). Monthly composite milk samples were collected from 30 to 300 days in milk to measure somatic cell count (SCC); milk production was also recorded on the same days.

Article Synopsis
  • Preoperative echocardiographic assessments are essential for patients with severe mitral regurgitation, and this study compares the effectiveness of 3D transthoracic echocardiography (3D TTE) to 3D transesophageal echocardiography (3D TEE) in diagnosing valvular issues against surgical findings.
  • A total of 60 patients scheduled for mitral valve repair underwent both imaging techniques, and while both methods showed high accuracy, 3D TEE outperformed 3D TTE in detecting multiple chordal ruptures.
  • Results indicated that while 3D TTE and 3D TEE provided similar findings for static parameters of the mitral annulus, they differed

Left ventricular non compaction (LVNC) comprises a heterogeneous group of diseases that can cause heart failure, arrhythmias, and thromboembolic events. In particular, the prevalence of thromboembolism in patients with LVNC is relevant compared to the general population. Atrial fibrillation and left ventricular thrombosis are strong predictors and require anticoagulant treatment in primary or secondary prevention, with a significant reduction in the risk of events.

Metabolic disorders as ketosis are manifestations of the animal's inability to manage the increase in energy requirement during early lactation. Generally, buffaloes show a different response to higher metabolic demands than other ruminants with a lower incidence of metabolic problems, although ketosis is one of the major diseases that may decrease the productivity in buffaloes. The aim of this study was to characterize the metabolic profile of Mediterranean buffaloes (MB) associated with 2 different levels of β-hydroxybutyrate (BHB).

The COVID-19 global pandemic emergency forced us to replace the "traditional and in presence" clinical, pre-graduating, veterinary medical training with clinical virtual-problem-based learning (v-PBL). This prospective cross-sectional case-control study aimed to evaluate the students' perception of the v-PBLs compared to the traditional veterinary clinical training (t-VCT). The t-VCT consisted of supervised management of clinical cases admitted at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and in the field.

Obesity is an important health issue in dogs since it influences a plethora of associated pathologies, including dermatological disorders. Considering the scarcity of information in pets, this work aimed to evaluate the localization and expression of adiponectin (ADIPOQ) and its two receptors (ADIPOR1 and ADIPOR2) in the skin of 10 obese dogs, compared with serum ADIPOQ level. Through immunohistochemistry, ADIPOQ and ADIPOR2 were observed in the adipose tissue, sweat and sebaceous glands, endothelium, and some connective cells.
