Background: Gram-negative bloodstream infection (GNBSI) is a threat to public health in terms of mortality and antibiotic resistance. The hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) cohort accounts for 15%-20% of GNBSI, yet few strategies have been explored to reduce HPB GNBSI.

Aim: To identify clinical factors contributing to HPB GNBSI and strategies for its prevention.

Unlabelled: Background Increasing numbers of neonates are undergoing painful procedures in low-income and middle-income countries, with adequate analgesia seldom used. In collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team in Kenya, we aimed to establish the first evidence-based guidelines for the management of routine procedure-related neonatal pain that consider low-resource hospital settings.

Methods: We did a systematic review by searching MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, and CENTRAL databases for studies published from Jan 1, 1953, to March 31, 2019.

Background: The excision of melanoma of the external ear poses a challenge to surgeons, who must achieve adequate oncological control while minimising impact on form and function. Cartilage-preserving surgery is an attractive option, as it leaves behind a scaffold for immediate reconstruction with a variety of techniques including full-thickness skin grafts (FTSGs) and local flaps. This manuscript will review the literature comparing cartilage-sparing surgery with composite excision of the skin and the cartilage for the treatment of auricular melanoma.

Article Synopsis
  • * A case study highlights a patient with severe post-transplant complications, including harmful mucosal ulcerations, which were misdiagnosed until significant graft damage occurred.
  • * The case underscores the need for improved diagnostic tools and markers to better manage rejection episodes and enhance the effectiveness of antirejection therapies in transplantation.

A best evidence topic was written according to the structured protocol. The three part question addressed was: [In patients undergoing closure of surgical wounds with sutures] does [keeping the wound dry for the first 48 h after closure] [reduce the incidence of surgical site infections (SSIs)]? 4 relevant papers were culled from the literature and appraised. The authors, date, country, population, study type, main outcomes, key results and study weaknesses were tabulated.

Article Synopsis
  • The post-movement beta synchronization (PMBS) is a key feature in the brain's sensorimotor system, occurring after voluntary movement has stopped, and is influenced by visual feedback related to errors in task performance.
  • PMBS amplitude is connected to how confident individuals feel about their internal estimations of movement, showcasing a relationship between sensory input and motor output, where inaccuracies might indicate a need for exploration or adaptation.
  • This study suggests that combining insights from both motor and sensory perspectives on PMBS offers a more unified understanding of how the brain processes movement, especially under uncertain conditions during sensorimotor tasks.
