Introduction: Adolescents presenting with medically unexplained symptoms (MUS) in non-mental healthcare settings, particularly Emergency Departments (EDs), pose diagnostic challenges necessitating a comprehensive bio-psycho-social approach. Amid the youth mental health crisis, recognising psychological distress is imperative. This study delved into physicians' perceptions and diagnostic tendencies regarding such cases, exploring the potential overshadowing of psychosomatic presentations by medicalized diagnoses in EDs.

Medication adherence in first-episode psychosis patients in Singapore.

Aim: Early intervention programmes for first episode psychosis (FEP) aim to reduce the duration of untreated psychosis (DUP) and improve functional outcomes. The sustained maintenance of improved outcomes depends largely on patients' adherence to prescribed treatment. This paper examines the prevalence of non-adherence in a cohort of patients with FEP and the sociodemographic and clinical factors associated with non-adherent behaviour.

Effectiveness of Electroconvulsive Therapy and Associated Cognitive Change in Schizophrenia: A Naturalistic, Comparative Study of Treating Schizophrenia With Electroconvulsive Therapy.

Objective: There is limited evidence regarding the relative treatment effectiveness and cognitive effects of different types of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) in schizophrenia. In this study, we sought to determine the overall effectiveness and compare the symptomatic and cognitive outcomes of patients with schizophrenia who received different modalities of ECT treatment.

Methods: Patients received 1 of 4 of the following ECT modalities: bitemporal ECT with age-based dosing, right unilateral ECT with seizure threshold-based dosing, bitemporal ECT with seizure threshold-based dosing, and bifrontal ECT with seizure threshold-based dosing ECT.

Disability impacts length of stay in general internal medicine patients.

Background: Disability is prevalent among patients treated in Internal Medicine (IM), but its impact on length of inpatient stay (LOS) is unknown. Current systems of patient management and resource allocation are disease-focused with scant attention paid to functional impairment. Earlier studies in selected cohorts suggest that disability prolongs LOS.
