Article Synopsis
  • Efforts to enhance stroke care in rural China have revealed a significant lack of comprehensive data comparing care and outcomes between rural and urban hospitals.
  • A study analyzing 1,583,271 patients from 1930 hospitals found that rural hospitals provided less effective management for acute ischemic stroke, evidenced by lower rates of critical treatments compared to urban hospitals.
  • Despite these disparities in treatment quality, the overall differences in in-hospital outcomes between rural and urban patients were minimal, with rural patients showing slightly higher in-hospital death or discharge against medical advice but lower rates of complications.
