In this letter, we discuss the topic of necessity of routine laboratory monitoring during isotretinoin treatment for acne. According to Park and colleagues, it is advisable to monitor the levels of triglycerides, alanine aminotransferase, and aspartate aminotransferase every 5 to 6 months. Additionally, the levels of total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein should be checked within the first two months of treatment.

Through applying isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantification technology coupled with liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry, the researchers observed significant differential expression of 47 proteins when comparing serum samples from pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) to the healthy ones. GDM symptoms may involve abnormalities in inflammatory response, complement system, coagulation cascade activation, and lipid metabolism.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the most common liver cancer, occurs mainly in men, but the underlying mechanism remains to be further explored. Here, we report that ubiquitinated glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) is responsible for HCC tumorigenesis in males. Mechanistically, FBXW10 promotes GAPDH polyubiquitination and activation; VRK2-dependent phosphorylation of GAPDH Ser151 residue is critical for GAPDH ubiquitination and activation.

Although polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) degradation under methanogenesis is an ideal approach to remediating PAH-polluted soil, the contribution of methanogenesis to soil PAH elimination and the relationships between microbial ecological characteristics and PAH degradation during this process remain unclear. The aim of the present study was to investigate the association between the formation of hemangioma and the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) following local injections of pure alcohol in patients exhibiting hemangioma. Ten healthy subjects (control group) and 10 hemangioma patients (treatment group) were included in the study population, with the hemangioma patients receiving one injection of pure alcohol. The VEGF levels were evaluated in the treatment and control group subjects prior to and following the injection using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay; furthermore, local tissue was excised to perform pathological analysis one week after the injections.
