Hypo-fractionation radiotherapy normalizes tumor vasculature in non-small cell lung cancer xenografts through the p-STAT3/HIF-1 alpha signaling pathway.

Background: Hypo-fractionation radiotherapy (HFRT) was considered to be an important treatment for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), but the radiobiological effects of HFRT on NSCLC remain unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate specific biological effect of HFRT on tumor angiogenesis, compared with conventional radiotherapy (CRT).

Methods: The subcutaneous xenograft models and the dorsal skinfold window chamber (DSWC) models of nude mice bearing H460 and HCC827 NSCLC cells were irradiated with doses of 0 Gy (sham group), 22 Gy delivered into 11 fractions (CRT group) or 12 Gy delivered into 1 fraction (HFRT group).

F-FDG PET/CT SUV and serum CEA levels as predictors for EGFR mutation state in Chinese patients with non-small cell lung cancer.

The epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) contribute to an increased response rate, compared with chemotherapy, in patients with inhibitor-sensitive EGFR mutations. The present study evaluated the association between the maximum standardized uptake value (SUV) of F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography (FDG PET/CT), as well as serum carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) levels and EGFR mutations prior to treatment, in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Patients with histologically confirmed NSCLC (n=167), who underwent an F-FDG PET/CT scan, EGFR mutation analysis and a serum CEA test participated in the present study.

Transcriptomic and physiological analyses reveal drought adaptation strategies in drought-tolerant and -susceptible watermelon genotypes.

Drought stress has become one of the most urgent environmental hazards for horticultural crops. In this research, we analyzed watermelon adaptation strategies to drought stress in drought-tolerant (M20) and -susceptible (Y34) genotypes via transcriptomic and physiological analyses. After drought stress, a total of 6228 and 4311 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were observed in Y34 and M20, respectively.

Melatonin attenuates lung ischaemia-reperfusion injury via inhibition of oxidative stress and inflammation.

Objectives: Lung ischaemia-reperfusion injury is a complex pathophysiological process due to the production of reactive oxygen species and the generation of inflammatory reaction. We investigated the protective effects and the corresponding mechanism of melatonin (MT), a potent free-radical scavenger, on lung injury induced by ischaemia-reperfusion in a mouse model.

Methods: Adult male C57BL/6J mice (n = 30) were randomly and equally allocated into 5 groups: sham controls, IR, IR + 10 mg/kg MT, IR + 20 mg/kg MT and IR + 30 mg/kg MT.

[Study on ecological suitability of Gardenia jasminoides based on ArcGIS and Maxent model].

The application of ArcGIS and Maxent modelto analyze the ecological suitability of Gardenia jasminoides.Taking 85 batches of Gardenia as the basis of analysis, the selection of ecological factors for the growth of Gardenia. The results showed that the average precipitation in April, the average precipitation in November and the average precipitation in August were the most important factors affecting the growth of Gardenia.

Background: Brain metastasis (BM) is associated with poor prognosis in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Recent studies demonstrated that microRNA-330-3p (miR-330-3p) was involved in NSCLC brain metastasis (BM). However, the exact parts played by miR-330-3p in BM of NSCLC remain unknown.

Complete genomic characterization of two European-genotype porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus isolates in Fujian province of China.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) is considered one of the most devastating swine diseases worldwide, resulting in immense economic losses. PRRS virus (PRRSV) is divided into two major genotypes, European (type 1) and the North American (type 2). Type 1 PRRSV have recently emerged in Fujian province (South China), and this might have a significant impact on the Chinese pig industry.

[Physiological responses and tolerance to drought stress of different watermelon genotypes.].

With the continuous drought stress treatment to 12 pot-grown watermelon genotypes originated from different regions, the influence of drought stress on plant height, root length, fresh mass and dry mass was studied, and the physiological responses of these genotypes to drought stress were compared. Drought resistance of these watermelon genotypes was preliminarily determined according to the drought injury, and then confirmed by membership function evaluation method. We found that the watermelon genotypes exhibited great difference in drought tolerance based on the occurrence of drought injury and the degree of injury severity.

[Interactions between Hemoglobin and Other Proteins were Proved by the Electrophoresis Release Test and Co-immunoprecipitation].

Objective: To study the interactions between hemoglobin (Hb) and other proteins within human erythrocytes by using the electrophoresis release test (ERT) and co-immunoprecipitation.

Methods: First, the fresh normal adult anti-coagulated whole blood was washed to prepare packed RBCs, which were further prepared to erythrocyte suspension and hemolysate.The erythrocyte suspension and hemolysate were analyzed by the electrophoresis release test (ERT) at the same time, and then the band of HbA of erythrocyte sample (RA) and the corresponding band of hemolysate sample (HA) were cut out from the gel and were enriched by freeze-thaw method.

[Effect of molar root canal angles on the integrity of impression made by agar].

The family-wide structure and function of human dual-specificity protein phosphatases.

Dual-specificity protein phosphatases (DUSPs), which dephosphorylate both phosphoserine/threonine and phosphotyrosine, play vital roles in immune activation, brain function and cell-growth signalling. A family-wide structural library of human DUSPs was constructed based on experimental structure determination supplemented with homology modelling. The catalytic domain of each individual DUSP has characteristic features in the active site and in surface-charge distribution, indicating substrate-interaction specificity.

Genetic diversity and evolutionary characterization of Chinese porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome viruses based on NSP2 and ORF5.

To more fully understand the extent of genetic diversity of PRRSV in China, we analyzed the Nsp2 and ORF5 gene sequences of 35 representative PRRSV isolates from 2008 to 2012. Sequence analysis revealed that the Nsp2 and ORF5 genes have undergone genetic variation. Furthermore, the isolate FJLYDX04 contains five insertions at positions 599 to 603 and is the first isolate from China reported to have an insertion in Nsp2.

Multiplex PCR for the simultaneous detection of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus, classical swine fever virus, and porcine circovirus in pigs.

A multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was designed for the simultaneous detection of three viruses involved in reproductive and respiratory failure in pigs: porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), classical swine fever virus (CSFV) and porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV-2). Each target produced a specific amplicon with a size of 718 bp (PRRSV), 288 bp (CSFV), or 466 bp (PCV-2). Homophilic interaction of the L1 family of cell adhesion molecules plays a pivotal role in regulating neurite outgrowth and neural cell networking in vivo. Functional defects in L1 family members are associated with neurological disorders such as X-linked mental retardation, multiple sclerosis, low-IQ syndrome, developmental delay, and schizophrenia. Various human tumors with poor prognosis also implicate the role of L1, a representative member of the L1 family of cell adhesion molecules, and ectopic expression of L1 in fibroblastic cells induces metastasis-associated gene expression.

Immunization with recombinant Lactobacillus casei strains producing K99, K88 fimbrial protein protects mice against enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli.

To exploit a safe and effective vaccine for the prevention against K99 or K88 infections of enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC), we have developed a mucosal delivery vehicle based on Lactobacillus casei CICC 6105 using poly-γ-glutamate synthetase A (PgsA) as an anchoring matrix. To evaluate the immunization effect of the recombinant strains (harboring plasmids pLA-K99-K88-LTB, pLA-K99, and pLA-K88), anti-ETEC K99 or K88 antibody responses, T-cell proliferation, and cytokines by intracellular staining (ICS) were investigated after specific pathogen-free (SPF) C57BL/6 mice orally inoculated with these recombinant strains. After oral vaccination into C57BL/6 mice, all recombinant strains were proved to be immunogenic and able to elicit high levels of mucosal immunoglobulin A (IgA) titers in bronchoalveolar lavage fluids, intestinal fluids and prominent systemic immunoglobulin G and IgG subclasses (IgG1, IgG2b, and IgG2a) responses in sera.

[Clinical effect of chaipo granule combined with routine treatment on refractory asthma].

Objective: To evaluate the therapeutic effect of Chaipo Granule (CPG) combined with routine treatment on refractory asthma.

Methods: Sixty patient with refractory asthma were assigned equally in a double-blind, randomized way to the treatment group and the control group. Routine treatment (including regular inhalation of salmeterol and fluticasone propionate 50/250 microg, and if necessary, inhalation of salbutamol + ipratropium bromide) were given to all patients.
