This study aimed to evaluate the effect of Astragalus polysaccharides (PG2) on reducing chemotherapy-induced fatigue (CIF) and toxicity, thereby encouraging compliance to chemotherapy. This was a randomized, placebo-controlled, phase 2 study. Patients with stage II/III early breast cancer planning to undergo adjuvant anthracycline-based chemotherapy were randomly assigned to receive PG2 500 mg or placebo on days 1, 3, and 8 every 21 days.

This study investigated the role of CD40/CD40L in the pathogenesis of PE by comparing the effect of maternal serum obtained from healthy pregnant women and PE patients on HUVEC cell growth, apoptosis and CD40/CD40L expression.

Methods: Maternal serum was obtained from 20 patients with PE (PE group) as well as 20 healthy pregnant women (control group).

Methods: BALB/c mice were immunized with purified His-DcR3 protein, and mAbs against DcR3 which prepared by hybridoma technique were purified and identified by their specificity, subtype, titers via ELISA and Western blot.

Results: Five hybridoma cell lines secreting mAbs against human DcR3 were obtained, which were determined as IgG1 subtype and ascites titers of five mAbs against DcR3 reached 1x10(-5)-1x10(-7).

Cloning and identification of novel cellulase genes from uncultured microorganisms in rabbit cecum and characterization of the expressed cellulases.

A metagenomic cosmid library was prepared in Escherichia coli from DNA extracted from the contents of rabbit cecum and screened for cellulase activities. Eleven independent clones expressing cellulase activities (four endo-beta-1,4-glucanases and seven beta-glucosidases) were isolated. Subcloning and sequencing analysis of these clones identified 11 cellulase genes; the encoded products of which shared less than 50% identities and 70% similarities to cellulases in the databases.
