Good quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is the mainstay of treatment for managing patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). Assessment of the quality of the CPR delivered is now possible through the electrocardiography (ECG) signal that can be collected by an automated external defibrillator (AED). This study evaluates a nonlinear approximation of the CPR given to the asystole patients.

Objective: Effective airway management requires both proper technique and the appropriate devices. With the widespread implementation of advanced life-support techniques in emergency medical services (EMS), orotracheal intubation is now performed not only by professional practitioners but, in many occasions, nonprofessionals. With extensively diversified skill equipped, we tested whether the Sunscope, a patented tracheal intubation device with a digital display, is able to facilitate tracheal intubation by naïve EMS personnel with various training backgrounds.

A novel fuzzy pain demand index derived from patient-controlled analgesia for postoperative pain.

A multilayer hierarchical structure for an intelligent analysis system is described in this paper. Four levels (patients', measurement, Web-based, and interpreting) are used to collect massive amounts from clinical information and analyze it with both traditional and artificial intelligent methods. To support this, a novel fuzzy pain demand (FPD) index derived from the interval of each bolus of patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) is designed and documented in a large-scale clinical survey.

Determinants of patient-controlled epidural analgesia requirements: a prospective analysis of 1753 patients.

Objectives: Patient-controlled epidural analgesia (PCEA) has been widely used in postoperative pain management. Many factors may correlate with PCEA requirements but no previous study has ever investigated this subject. Therefore, we conducted this study to explore the relationship among patients' characteristics and total PCEA consumption during the 3-day postoperative course.
