Background: Computational fluid dynamics has been widely used to assist the design and evaluation of blood pumps. Discretization errors associated with computational grid may influence the credibility of numerical simulations. Non-conformal grid interfaces commonly exist in rotary machines, including rotary blood pumps.

In most countries, large cerebral artery occlusion is identified as the leading cause of disability. In 2015, five large-scale clinical trials confirmed the benefit of intra-arterial thrombectomy. However, thrombectomy is a highly technical and facility-dependent procedure.

It is previously suggested that insulin-like growth factor binding proteins (IGFBPs) potentially share an association with disc degeneration (DD) that causes back pain. This study aimed at exploring the functional relevance of IGFBP5 in DD by establishing a rat model of DD. The nucleus pulposus (NP) cells were transduced with IGFBP5-shRNA or IGFBP5 overexpression to determine the cellular processes (proliferation, apoptosis, as well as colony formation).

The probability of two-photon transition (TPT) under a control field to inhibit the quantum interference and enhance the nonlinear optical cross section is observed. Essentially, this is a V-type electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) with TPT instead of one photon transition. Numerical simulation based on solving the steady state density matrix can qualitatively fit the experimental data.
