Purpose: The incidence of vascular dementia (VaD), as one of the main types of dementia in old age, has been increasing year by year, and exploring its pathogenesis and seeking practical and effective treatment methods are undoubtedly the key to solving this problem. Phosphoglycerate translocase 5 (PGAM5), as a crossroads of multiple signaling pathways, can lead to mitochondrial fission, which in turn triggers the onset and development of necroptosis, and thus PGAM5 may be a novel target for the prevention and treatment of vascular dementia.

Methods: Animal model of vascular dementia was established by Two-vessel occlusion (2-VO) method, and cellular model of vascular dementia was established by oxygen glucose deprivation (OGD) method.

Background: Chronic inflammation is closely related to the occurrence and progression of many cancers, especially colorectal cancer (CRC), which can be triggered by repeated and sustained induction of colitis in mice. CRC is a typical type of cancer that can be caused by inflammation and NLRP3 inflammasome dysregulation plays a certain role in the pathogenesis of CRC.

Purpose: As an edible Chinese medicine, Abrus cantoniensis Hance (ACH) has both anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor activities.

Athletes frequently compete only a few days after long-haul travel. Longitudinal real-world data on athletes' sleep and sleep-wake cycle in competitive settings remain scarce. This study assessed the impact of a long-haul travel across ∼13 time zones on sleep patterns, rest-activity circadian rhythms (RAR), and their subsequent effects on neuromuscular function and race performance in the Canadian Short-Track Speed Skating Team.

  • The study investigates the natural compound diphyllin's effectiveness against SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19, particularly against various variants like Alpha, Beta, Delta, and Omicron.
  • Results show that diphyllin inhibits the virus's entry into cells in a dose-dependent manner by disrupting critical processes required for viral entry.
  • The research highlights diphyllin's potential as a dual-action antiviral agent by targeting both endosomal and cell surface pathways involved in SARS-CoV-2 entry.

Multilayer dense myelin tissue provides insulating space and nutritional support for axons in healthy spinal cord tissue. Oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs) are the main glial cells that complement myelin loss in the central nervous system and play an important role in the repair of spinal cord injury (SCI). However, the regulation of axonal remyelination after SCI is still insufficient.

Photocured resin materials are widely used in various fields, such as 3D printing, medical applications, and dentistry. However, the strength, wear resistance, and antibacterial properties of photocured resin are relatively limited, rendering it susceptible to potential failures. In this recent study, photocured composite resins incorporating titanium-doped hydroxyapatite (Ti-HAp) were fabricated to investigate their mechanical and biological properties.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Abrus cantoniensis Hance (ACH), known as Jigucao (Chinese: ) has been used in ethnopharmacology for a long history with therapeutic effects for clearing heat, soothing the liver, especially in treating acute and chronic hepatitis which was very effective. In southern China, such as Guangdong and Guangxi, people often use ACH in soup or herbal tea as dietetic therapy.

Aim Of The Review: This paper aims to review ACH's ethnopharmacology, phytochemistry, and pharmacological activity systematically, at the same time, we also hope to provide more research avenues between traditional uses and pharmacological properties.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) can cause loss of sensory and motor function below the level of injury, posing a serious threat to human health and quality of life. One significant characteristic feature of pathological changes following injury in the nervous system is demyelination, which partially contributes to the long-term deficits in neural function after injury. The remyelination in the central nervous system (CNS) is mainly mediated by oligodendrocyte progenitor cells (OPCs).

Lupus nephritis (LN) occurs in 50% of cases of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and is one of the most serious complications that can occur during lupus progression. Mesangial cells (MCs) are intrinsic cells in the kidney that can regulate capillary blood flow, phagocytose apoptotic cells, and secrete vasoactive substances and growth factors. Previous studies have shown that various types of inflammatory cells can activate MCs for hyperproliferation, leading to disruption of the filtration barrier and impairment of renal function in LN.

Background: Necroptosis, a novel form of programmed cell death wherein the necrotic morphology is characterized by swelling of the cells, rupture of the plasma membrane, and dysfunction of the organelle, has been always observed in cardiovascular diseases. Sugarcane leaf polysaccharide (SLP) are primary components present in sugarcane leaves that exert cardiovascular protective effects. However, the positive effect of SLP and underlying mechanisms in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (MI/R) remain unexplored.

To establish a high-quality, easy-to-use, and effective risk prediction model for hepatic encephalopathy, to help healthcare professionals with identifying people who are at high risk of getting hepatic encephalopathy, and to guide them to take early interventions to reduce the occurrence of hepatic encephalopathy. Patients (n = 1178) with decompensated cirrhosis who attended the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine between January 2016 and June 2022 were selected for the establishment and validation of a nomogram model for risk prediction of hepatic encephalopathy. In this study, we screened the risk factors for the development of hepatic encephalopathy in patients with decompensated cirrhosis by univariate analysis, LASSO regression and multifactor analysis, then established a nomogram model for predicting the risk of getting hepatic encephalopathy for patients with decompensated cirrhosis, and finally performed differentiation analysis, calibration analysis, clinical decision curve analysis and validation of the established model.

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is increasingly getting attention worldwide, as it has played a very satisfactory role in treating COVID-19 during these past 3 years, and the Chinese government highly supports the development of TCM. The therapeutical theory and efficacies of Chinese medicine (CM) involve the safety, effectiveness and quality evaluation of CM, which requires a standard sound system. Constructing a scientific and reasonable CM quality and safety evaluation system, and establishing high-quality standards are the key cores to promote the high-quality development of CM.
