Article Synopsis
  • Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) is a common problem that can happen after heart surgery, making it hard for people to think clearly.
  • In a study with rats, researchers looked at how certain fats in the brain are linked to POCD and found that there were many lipids and some important proteins that were not working properly in the brains of the rats with POCD.
  • They discovered that by fixing the fat metabolism problems in the rats, they could lessen the chances of POCD happening, which could help find new ways to prevent it in people after surgery.
