A coarse-grained lattice gas model is developed to study pattern forming processes in drying drops containing surfactant. By performing Monte Carlo simulations of the model, the coupled dynamics of surfactant and liquid evaporation and the resulting oscillatory dynamics at the contact line are elucidated. We show that the coupled drop dynamics and the resulting final deposition patterns can be altered by adsorption kinetics.

Article Synopsis
  • The research uses a coarse-grained lattice model to study the patterns created when a droplet containing particles evaporates, focusing on how evaporative convection and Brownian motion affect these patterns.
  • Results indicate that the resulting deposit patterns depend on the balance between convective transport and particle interactions—ring-like patterns form when convection is strong, while wave-like or island-like patterns emerge when interactions dominate.
  • The thickness of the wave-like patterns is primarily influenced by the evaporation rates of the droplet.

Iridology is a complementary and alternative medicine that involves the diagnosis of medical conditions by noting irregularities of the pigmentation in the iris. Iris constitution has a strong hereditary component. Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFalpha), a pleiotropic cytokine, has been implicated in many pathological processes including hypertension.
