Although chitosan is the second most abundant natural polymer on earth, with a wide range of biomaterial applications, its poor water solubility limits general printing process. We selected water-soluble methacrylated glycol chitosan (MeGC) as an alternative and prepared a MeGC-based MG-63 cell-laden bioink for 3D printing using a visible light curing system. Optimal cell-laden 3D printing of MeGC was completed at 3% using 12 μM of riboflavin as a photoinitiator under an irradiation for 70 s, a 26-gauge nozzle, a pneumatic pressure of 120 kPa, and a printing speed of 6 mm/s, as confirmed by printability, protein adsorption, cell viability, cell proliferation, and osteogenic capability.

Article Synopsis
  • - Metastable phases, which are temporarily stable structures formed under certain conditions, are commonly found in nature and can have better properties than their stable counterparts, making them valuable in materials science.
  • - Crystals often start as metastable phases influenced by factors like temperature and pressure, and they typically transition to more stable forms as they grow over time.
  • - A new approach for discovering metastable materials involves rational design rather than relying on intuition, as demonstrated by the creation of a unique metastable hexagonal close-packed palladium hydride (PdH) through precise control of precursor concentrations.

There has been a long-standing expectation that the optical-resolution embodiment of photoacoustic tomography could have a substantial impact on gastrointestinal endoscopy by enabling microscopic visualization of the vasculature based on the endogenous contrast mechanism. Although multiple studies have demonstrated the in vivo imaging capability of a developed imaging device over the last decade, the implementation of such an endoscopic system that can be applied immediately when necessary via the instrument channel of a video endoscope has been a challenge. In this study, we developed a 3.

This work presents a novel approach to synthesizing magnetic core-shell nanocomposites, consisting of magnetic nanoparticles and a metal-organic framework, for environmental applications. The synthesis is based on the encapsulation of magnetic FeO nanoparticles with microporous zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) nanocrystals via ultrasonic activation under a continuous supply of precursor solutions. This sonochemical approach is proven to be a fast, cost-effective, and controllable route for the preparation of magnet-responsive FeO@ZIF-8 nanoparticles with a core-shell structure.

Two-dimensional (2D) catalysts often show extraordinary activity at low mass loading since almost all their atoms are exposed to electrolyte. Palladium (Pd) holds great promise for catalyzing oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) but 2D Pd-based ORR catalyst has rarely been reported. Herein, 2D ternary palladium phosphoronitride (PdPN) is synthesized, for the first time, for ORR catalysis.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a cytotoxic chemotherapy-resistant tumor and most HCCs arise in a background of liver cirrhosis of various causes. Although the IMBrave150 trial showed remarkable advancements in the treatment of unresectable HCC with atezolizumab plus bevacizumab (AteBeva), therapeutic outcomes were unsatisfactory in more than half of the patients. Accordingly, many ongoing trials combine conventional modalities with new drugs such as immune checkpoint inhibitors for better treatment outcomes, and they are expected to benefit patients with limited responses to conventional treatment.

We analyze the static response to perturbations of nonequilibrium steady states that can be modeled as one-dimensional diffusions on the circle. We demonstrate that an arbitrary perturbation can be broken up into a combination of three specific classes of perturbations that can be fruitfully addressed individually. For each class, we derive a simple formula that quantitatively characterizes the response in terms of the strength of nonequilibrium driving valid arbitrarily far from equilibrium.

Osteocytes play a critical role in bone remodeling through the secretion of paracrine factors regulating the differentiation and activity of osteoblasts and osteoclasts. Sclerostin is a key osteocyte-derived factor that suppresses bone formation and promotes bone resorption, therefore regulators of sclerostin secretion are a likely source of new therapeutic strategies for treatment of skeletal disorders. Here, we demonstrate that protein kinase CK2 (casein kinase 2) controls sclerostin expression in osteocytes via the deubiquitinase ubiquitin-specific peptidase 4 (USP4)-mediated stabilization of Sirtuin1 (SIRT1).
