Article Synopsis
  • The study compares laparoscopic complete mesocolic excision (LCME) with traditional open D2 radical surgery for colon carcinoma, focusing on surgical outcomes and patient prognosis through a retrospective analysis of 98 cases.
  • After matching 86 patients for baseline characteristics, the results showed that while LCME had a longer surgery duration, it involved less intraoperative bleeding and retrieved more lymph nodes compared to D2 surgery.
  • Both surgical methods yielded similar disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) rates, suggesting that LCME is a viable alternative to D2 radical surgery despite some differences in intraoperative metrics.

Visualization of cell apoptosis is a critical task playing central roles in the fundamental studies in biology, pathology, and biomedicine. Dual-emissive fluorescent probes are desired molecular tools for study on apoptosis, which however were rarely reported. Herein, utilizing the polarity differences between lysosomes and nucleus, a translocation type of fluorescent probe (NA-S) was developed for the dual-color visualization of cell apoptosis.

Lipid droplets (LDs) and lysosomes play key roles in autophagy and cell apoptosis, and the discriminative visualization of the two organelles and simultaneously of autophagy and apoptosis is very helpful to understand their internal relationships. However, fluorescent probes that can concurrently achieve these tasks are not available currently. Herein, we delicately fabricate a robust probe CAQ2 for multiple tasks: illumination of LDs and lysosomes in dual emission colors as well as discriminative visualization of cell apoptosis and autophagy.

In this work, based on a dual signal amplification strategy of enzyme-assisted signal amplification (EASA) and catalytic hairpin assembly (CHA), combined with the magnetic attraction effect, a capillary pump-driven surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) microfluidic chip (LoC-SERS) platform was developed for the sensitive detection of colorectal cancer-associated (CRC) microRNA (miRNA). During the detection process, the miRNA first undergoes an EASA reaction with hairpin DNA1 (hpDNA1) under the action of endonuclease, which generates a large amount of DNA2 cyclically. After that, DNA2 triggers the CHA reaction to proceed, which leads to the ligation of the SERS nanoprobes and the capture nanoprobes (hpDNA2-hpDNA3 complexes).

Introduction: Previous studies suggested that sevelamer carbonate is well tolerated with a favorable efficacy and safety profile in both dialysis and nondialysis patients in Europe; however, the efficacy remains controversial, and few studies have examined sevelamer carbonate therapy in other ethnic nondialysis CKD patients. This study assessed the efficacy and safety of sevelamer carbonate in Chinese nondialysis CKD patients with hyperphosphatemia.

Methods: The multicenter, randomized, double-blind, parallel-group, placebo-controlled, and phase 3 clinical trial enrolled 202 Chinese nondialysis CKD patients with serum phosphorus ≥1.

Patients bearing liver metastasis of pancreatic adeno carcinoma (PDAC) suffer from poor prognosis due to its short duration and high mortality. Complex tumor microenvironment (TME) exists in liver metastatic niches, and tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) have play vital roles in metastasis generation and outgrowth. We have discovered that M2 type TAM-derived SEMA5A could bind to its tumor cell-expressed receptor PLXNB3 to promote tumor cell proliferation and outgrowth.

Vein grafts are widely used for coronary artery bypass grafting and hemodialysis access, but restenosis remains the "Achilles' heel" of these treatments. An extravascular stent is one wrapped around the vein graft and provides mechanical strength; it can buffer high arterial pressure and secondary vascular dilation of the vein to prevent restenosis. In this study, we developed a novel Nanocellulose-gelatin hydrogel, loaded with the drug Astragaloside IV (AS-IV) as an extravascular scaffold to investigate its ability to reduce restenosis.

Following vein grafting, the vein must adapt to arterial hemodynamics, which can lead to intimal hyperplasia (IH) and restenosis. Moreover, endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndMT) components are highly associated with IH. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to design an extravascular film loaded with rapamycin (extravascular rapamycin film [ERF]) to limit vein graft stenosis.

The effects of nanoconfined water and the charge storage mechanism are crucial to achieving the ultrahigh electrochemical performance of two-dimensional transition metal carbides (MXenes). We propose a facile method to manipulate nanoconfined water through surface chemistry modification. By introducing oxygen and nitrogen surface groups, more active sites were created for TiC MXene, and the interlayer spacing was significantly increased by accommodating three-layer nanoconfined water.

Driven by technological progress and market demand, the optimization and adjustment of grain planting structure played an important role in increasing grain output. Due to the great difference between the yield per unit area of different types of food crops, the consumption of cropland and water resources has a significant change during the grain growth. From the perspective of structural adjustment, rather than the usual productive factor input, we analyze the process of adjustment for grain planting structure in China and its effect on the consumption of cropland and water resources by using the scenario comparative analysis method.
