Mixed non-motorized traffic is largely unaffected by motor vehicle congestion, offering high accessibility and convenience, and thus serving as a primary mode of "last-mile" transportation in urban areas. To advance stochastic capacity estimation methods and provide reliable assessments of non-motorized roadway capacity, this study proposes a stochastic capacity estimation model based on power spectral analysis. The model treats discrete traffic flow data as a time-series signal and employs a stochastic signal parameter model to fit stochastic traffic flow patterns.

Large field-of-view images are increasingly used in various environments today, and image stitching technology can make up for the limited field of view caused by hardware design. However, previous methods are constrained in various environments. In this paper, we propose a method that combines the powerful feature extraction capabilities of the Superpoint algorithm and the exact feature matching capabilities of the Lightglue algorithm with the image fusion algorithm of Unsupervised Deep Image Stitching (UDIS).

Epigenetic modifications, such as histone alterations, play crucial roles in regulating the flowering process in Arabidopsis, a typical long-day model plant. Histone modifications are notably involved in the intricate regulation of FLC, a key inhibitor of flowering. Although sirtuin-like protein and NAD-dependent deacetylases play an important role in regulating energy metabolism, plant stress responses, and hormonal signal transduction, the mechanisms underlying their developmental transitions remain unclear.

Introduction: Tourette syndrome (TS) is a chronic neuropsychiatric disorder with unknown causes and inadequate therapies. Inspired by the important roles of gut microbiota in some mental illnesses, the interactions between gut microbiota and TS via the gut-brain axis have gained more and more attention. This study aimed to characterize the gut microbial profiles in children with TS, and explore the clinical effects of one combinational physiotherapy and its potential influence on gut microbial composition.

With the development of infrared detection technology and the improvement of military remote sensing needs, infrared object detection networks with low false alarms and high detection accuracy have been a research focus. However, due to the lack of texture information, the false detection rate of infrared object detection is high, resulting in reduced object detection accuracy. To solve these problems, we propose an infrared object detection network named Dual-YOLO, which integrates visible image features.

Arabidopsis histone deacetylase HDA19 is required for gene expression programs of a large spectrum of plant developmental and stress-responsive pathways. How this enzyme senses cellular environment to control its activity remains unclear. In this work, we show that HDA19 is post-translationally modified by S-nitrosylation at 4 Cysteine (Cys) residues.

A varifocal lens is an important part of optical systems with applications in biomedicine, photography, smartphones, and virtual reality. In this paper, we propose and demonstrate a varifocal liquid lens driven by a conical dielectric elastomer actuator. When the conical dielectric elastomer is subjected to an actuation voltage, the conical dielectric elastomer works as an out-plane actuator and makes the surface curvature of the liquid droplet increase; then the focal length of the proposed varifocal liquid lens changes.

Hollow-core negative curvature fibers can confine light within air core and have small nonlinearity and dispersion and high damage threshold, thereby attracting a great deal of interest in the field of hollow core fibers. However, reducing the loss of hollow-core negative curvature fibers is a serious problem. On this basis, three new types of fibers with different nested tube structures are proposed in the near-infrared spectral regions and compared in detail with a previously proposed hollow-core negative curvature fiber.

Image dehazing is challenging due to the problem of ill-posed parameter estimation. Numerous prior-based and learning-based methods have achieved great success. However, most learning-based methods use the changes and connections between scale and depth in convolutional neural networks for feature extraction.

Oral nutritional (ON) products are an effective way to treat patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) whose gastrointestinal functions are normal. The influence of ON formula prepared with three different proteins on T2DM was studied. The hyperglycaemic mouse model using a high-fat diet (HFD) combined with an intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (STZ) was used to simulate T2DM.

We propose and demonstrate a compact tunable lens with high transmittance using a dielectric elastomer sandwiched by transparent conductive liquid. The transparent conductive liquid not only serves as the refractive material of the tunable lens but also works as the compliant electrode of the dielectric elastomer. The overall dimensions of the proposed tunable lens are 16 mm in diameter and 10 mm in height, and the optical transmittance is as high as 92.

SDG711 is a histone H3K27me2/3 transmethylase in rice, a homolog of CLF in Arabidopsis, and plays key roles in regulating flowering time and panicle development. In this work, we investigated the role of SDG711 in rice seed development. Overexpression and downregulation of SDG711 lead to a decrease and increase in the expression level of genes related to starch accumulation, resulting in smaller seeds or even seed abortion.

Article Synopsis
  • Sirenomelia is a rare and severe congenital malformation with a case involving dichorionic twins, where one twin had sirenomelia and the other appeared normal but had different chromosomal abnormalities.
  • The affected twin was diagnosed via ultrasound at 22 weeks, showing various serious complications, while genetic testing revealed distinct chromosomal deletions in each twin.
  • The absence of effective treatments led to the intrauterine death of the twin with sirenomelia and subsequent death of the co-twin, highlighting the need for thorough prenatal assessments and further research into the genetic causes of sirenomelia.

Epigenetic regulation of gene expression is important for plant adaptation to environmental changes. Previous results showed that Arabidopsis RPD3-like histone deacetylase HDA9 is known to function in repressing plant response to stress in Arabidopsis. However, how HDA9 targets to specific chromatin loci and controls gene expression networks involved in plant response to stress remains largely unclear.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most malignant and highly aggressive brain tumor. In this study, four types of typical GBM cell lines (LN229, SNB19, U87, U251) were cultured in a microfabricated 3-D model to study their in vitro behaviors. The 3-D in vitro model provides hollow micro-chamber arrays containing a natural collagen interface and thus allows the GBM cells to grow in the 3-D chambers.

Addition of Ag is a promising way to enhance the H2 permeability of sulfur-tolerant PdCu membranes for cleanup of coal-derived hydrogen. We investigated a series of PdCuAg membranes with at least 70 atom % Pd to elucidate the interdependence between alloy structure and H2 permeability. Membranes were prepared via sequential electroless plating of Pd, Ag, and Cu onto ceramic microfiltration membranes and subsequent alloying at elevated temperatures.
