The environmental challenges associated with cadmium contamination in wastewater have necessitated the development of high-performing activated carbons (ACs) for effective wastewater treatment. Adsorption capacity depends on both the surface area and the adsorption-active functional groups developed on the adsorbent's surface during activation. Proper manipulation of key process variables using the appropriate activation route produces highly efficient and economically viable ACs.

This study simulate the process modeling of drying characteristics of (GmW) and (MaW) wood under the influence of various process variables such as drying time, drying temperature, and airflow velocity. GmW and MaW moisture desorption isotherms, kinetics, and thermodynamics were also studied. Five (5) thin-layer and desorption isotherm drying models were used to model the moisture ratio and water activity data from the process.

The utilization of various feedstocks of unique characteristics in producing biogas could potentially enhance the application of clean fuel from biomass wastes. Two modelling tools were used to explore biogas production from plant and animal wastes. In this study, corn chaff was inoculated with cow dung digestate using different mixing ratios of substrate/inoculum (S/I) of 1:1, 1:1.

Experimental analysis on the spray characteristics of a diesel engine injector nozzle fueled with Residual Fuel Oil (RFO) was carried out in this study. To achieve this, the fuel was characterized to determine its physicochemical properties, and an experimental set up was designed to visualize and capture the spray pattern of the fuel. The images obtained were processed and analysed using Image J software to determine the spray length, spray cone angle, spray area, spray volume, and spray velocity values of the fuel.

The difficulties involved in trying to model the motion of a solid particle through surfaces, particularly at the liquid-liquid interface, are mainly due to the continuous deformation of the surface, not only as the particle progresses through the surface, but also before its penetration into the lower liquid. This study investigated experimentally and theoretically, the hydrodynamic drag force on a sphere approaching a liquid-liquid interface. The experiment ball material of steel of different ball diameters ranging from 1.

A sponge-like conductive aerogel has been fabricated comprising spherical nanoparticles of polypyrrole and jelly polyvinylpyrrolidone on the surface of cellulose nanofibrils defibrillated from water hyacinth fibres. Box-Behnken response surface methodology was used to optimize the aerogel's electrical conductivity for understanding its relationship with the synthesis conditions. Morphological and microstructural results showed that water hyacinth cellulose nanofibrils has a rough topography and an average height of 5 nm.

This work involved S-domain stability analysis of a turning tool with process damping. Process damping is a phenomenon of dry friction between the tool flank face and workpiece which induces high stability and smoothness at low turning speed. A pair of valid equations for stability analysis of turning with process damping was derived in this work using Laplace transformation method.

Animal feeds contributes to a greater percentage of the cost of production of livestock. For the increment in productivity and profit, farmers are advised to produce their feed themselves to reduce the cost of production. This work is aimed at producing a simple single unit fish feed pelletizer at a lost cost for peasant farmers.

The wood used for the study was sun dried for about 48 h, pulverized using a hammer mill and then sieved to a particle size of about 425μm using Wiley milling machine. The prepared materials were pyrolyzed in a fixed-bed pyrolysis reactor in the temperature range from 425 to 500 °C. The product yields were collected at an interval of 25 °C.

Right ventricular dysfunction is highly prevalent across cardiopulmonary diseases and independently predicts death in both heart failure (HF) and pulmonary hypertension (PH). Progression towards right ventricular failure (RVF) can occur in spite of optimal medical treatment of HF or PH, highlighting current insufficient understanding of RVF molecular pathophysiology. To identify molecular mechanisms that may distinctly underlie RVF, we investigated the cardiac ventricular transcriptome of advanced HF patients, with and without RVF.

Background/objectives: The effects of testosterone supplementation on carbohydrate and lipid metabolism in obese older men are uncertain. We conducted a single-arm open-label prospective pilot study to investigate the effects of testosterone supplementation on central and peripheral insulin sensitivity in older men with upper body obesity and insulin resistance.

Subjects/methods: Twenty men (62-78 years-old) with morning testosterone levels <13.
