A Systematic Review of the Medicinal Potential of Mulberry in Treating Diabetes Mellitus.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a serious metabolic disorder which has reached epidemic proportions all over the world. Despite tremendous developments in medicinal chemistry, traditional medicine is still commonly used for the prevention and treatment of DM. Traditional herbal medicines have played a major role in the management of DM in Asian countries.

The antidepressant effects of ɑ-tocopherol are related to activation of autophagy via the AMPK/mTOR pathway.

The purpose of the present study was to investigate whether ɑ-tocopherol exhibited neuro-protective effects in chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) mice through the regulation of autophagy. Deficits in behavioural tests, including a sucrose preference test, open field test, forced swim test, and tail suspension test, were ameliorated following ɑ-tocopherol administration. To study the potential mechanism, western blots were performed on both prefrontal cortex and hippocampus samples.

Determination and regulation of hepatotoxic pyrrolizidine alkaloids in food: A critical review of recent research.

Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) are secondary metabolites of plants. PAs have been reported to be hepatotoxic, mutagenic, and carcinogenic; they are a significant group of natural toxins affecting livestock, wildlife, and humans. To date, over 10,000 PAs poisoning cases have been reported worldwide.
