Significance of Relative Left Ventricle Wall Thickness in Predicting Acute Kidney Injury After Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery for Lung Cancer.

Given the strong association between relative wall thickness (RWT) and cardiovascular dysfunction, this study aims to explore RWT as a novel cardiovascular indicator to predict the risk of acute kidney injury (AKI) after lung cancer surgery and guide clinical interventions. This study retrospectively analyzed 170 patients who underwent video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) for lung cancer in Nanjing First Hospital, China, between January 2022 and December 2023. Patients were divided into AKI group (n = 52) and non-AKI group (n = 118) based on the occurrence of AKI.

MRI-guided microwave ablation and albumin-bound paclitaxel for lung tumors: Initial experience.

Magnetic resonance-guided microwave ablation (MRI-guided MWA) is a new, minimally invasive ablation method for cancer. This study sought to analyze the clinical value of MRI-guided MWA in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). We compared the precision, efficiency, and clinical efficacy of treatment in patients who underwent MRI-guided MWA or computed tomography (CT)-guided microwave ablation (CT-guided MWA).

Long non-coding RNA in bladder cancer.

Bladder cancer (BC) is the ninth most common malignant disease and ranks fourteenth in cancer mortality worldwide. Moreover, among cancers, the incidence and mortality of BC in males increased to the 6th and 9th place, respectively. The overall survival (OS) declines dramatically as the cancer progresses, especially when urothelial cells transition from noninvasive to invasive.

Preoperative short-term fasting protects liver injury in patients undergoing hepatectomy.

Background: Our previous study demonstrated that preoperative short-term fasting attenuates mice hepatic ischemia/reperfusion injury (IRI), which greatly piqued our interest in verifying if fasting produces similar protective effects in patients undergoing hepatectomy.

Methods: Eighty patients with liver tumors were randomized into control (Ctrl, n=40, preoperative fasting for 6 h) or fasting group (Fasting, n=40, preoperative fasting for 24 h). Serum was collected at pre-operation (Pre-Op), post-operation 1 day (POD-1), post-operation 3 days (POD-3), and post-operation 7 days (POD-7).

Anti-IL-20 monoclonal antibody suppresses hepatocellular carcinoma progression.

Interleukin (IL)-20 is a member of the IL-10 family of cytokines, which has been reported to participate in autoimmune inflammatory diseases. However, the potential role of IL-20 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) progression has not yet been investigated. In the present study, it was observed that IL-20 mRNA and protein levels were markedly increased in the HCC tissues examined via reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction and immunohistochemical staining.
