The form factors in the radiative decay of J/ψ to a scalar glueball are studied within quenched lattice QCD on anisotropic lattices. The continuum extrapolation is carried out by using two different lattice spacings. With the results of these form factors, the partial width of J/ψ radiatively decaying into the pure gauge scalar glueball is predicted to be 0.

Whether exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation (RF-EMR) emitted from mobile phones can induce DNA damage in male germ cells remains unclear. In this study, we conducted a 24h intermittent exposure (5 min on and 10 min off) of a mouse spermatocyte-derived GC-2 cell line to 1800 MHz Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) signals in GSM-Talk mode at specific absorption rates (SAR) of 1 W/kg, 2 W/kg or 4 W/kg. Subsequently, through the use of formamidopyrimidine DNA glycosylase (FPG) in a modified comet assay, we determined that the extent of DNA migration was significantly increased at a SAR of 4 W/kg.

Emerging evidence suggests that proteasome inhibition might be a promising approach for tumor therapy. Accumulating data suggest that autophagy is activated as a compensatory mechanism upon proteasome activity is impaired.

Materials And Methods: We performed a meta-analysis of all available studies, which included 3,191 cases and 5,090 controls.
Results: Overall, a significant risk effect of the T241M polymorphism was not found under homologous contrast (MM vs TT: OR=1.
Cobalt leaching from lithium cobalt oxide is a promising reduction process for recovery of cobalt and recycle of spent lithium ion batteries, but suffers from consumption of large amount of reductants and energy, and generation of excess secondary polluted sludge. Thus, effective and environmental friendly processes are needed to improve the existing process limitations. Here we reported microbial fuel cells (MFCs) to effectively reduce Co(III) in lithium cobalt oxide with concomitant energy generation.

Background: The cell cycle checkpoint kinase 2 (CHEK2) gene I157T variant may be associated with an increased risk of colorectal cancer, but it is unclear whether the evidence is sufficient to recommend testing for the mutation in clinical practice.
Materials And Methods: We systematically searched PubMed, EMBASES, Elsevier and Springer for relevant articles before Apr 2012. Summary odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were calculated using a fixed-effects or random-effects models with Review Manager 5.
Copper(I)-catalyzed dearomative arylation and vinylation of 2-substituted tryptophols were realized with a subsequent cyclization reaction. The cascade dearomatization sequence provided versatile furoindoline derivatives with two quaternary carbon centers in good to excellent yields.

Background And Aims: The therapeutic effects of pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMFs) on osteoporosis have been documented. However, the precise mechanisms by which PEMFs elicit these favorable biological responses are still not fully understood. This study aimed to systematically investigate the effects of PEMFs on bone mass and Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway in ovariectomized rats.

In the present study, we investigated whether glucose treatment attenuated memory deficits caused by chronic low-power-density microwave (MW) exposure, and the effect of MW exposure on hippocampal glucose uptake. We exposed Wistar rats to 2.

In this paper, we develop a bottom-up method which enables direct formation of organic semiconductor single crystals at selected locations with desired orientations. Here oriented growth of one-dimensional organic crystals is achieved by using self-assembly of organic molecules as the driving force to align these crystals in patterned regions.

A pair of 8-bp DRS was found upstream of each chi gene. Chi ORFs with a series of truncated DRS were cloned and transformed into E.

We report here that LY294002, a small molecule inhibitor of PI3K/AKT signal pathway, can inhibit proliferation and promote neuronal differentiation of MSCs after MSCs incubated with LY294002 for 6 and 12 h. RT-PCR results indicated that mRNA expression of α5β1 integrin significantly increased in neuron-like cell from MSCs.
