As a part of the immune system, leukocytes (LEs) have the features of circumvention of immunogenicity as well as recruitment to sites of inflammation during infection and tumorigenesis. Utilizing LEs as vehicles to carry theranostic agents is a promising strategy for highly efficient targeted delivery and treatment for inflammation and cancer. Specifically, the LEs, similar to 'Trojan horses', can bypass the immune system and thus enhance the therapeutic effects on inflammation and cancer.

Nitrate, which poses a serious threat to the drinking water supply, is one of the most prevalent anthropogenic groundwater contaminants worldwide. With the development of the chemical industry, the nitrate pollution of groundwater in the Piedmont strong runoff zone of the Hohhot Basin, which is the main groundwater extraction area, is becoming increasingly severe. The special hydrogeological and complex pollution conditions in the study area make it difficult to identify nitrate sources and transformation processes.

Several observational studies from locations around the globe have documented a positive correlation between air pollution and the severity of COVID-19 disease. Observational studies cannot identify the causal link between air quality and the severity of COVID-19 outcomes, and these studies face three key identification challenges: 1) air pollution is not randomly distributed across geographies; 2) air-quality monitoring networks are sparse spatially; and 3) defensive behaviors to mediate exposure to air pollution and COVID-19 are not equally available to all, leading to large measurement error bias when using rate-based COVID-19 outcome measures (e.g.

Developing high-performance infrared (IR) nonlinear optical (NLO) materials is urgent but challenging due to the competition between NLO coefficient and bandgap in one compound. Herein, by coupling NLO-active [BS] planar units and halide-centered polycations, six new metal thioborate halides ABaBSX (A = Rb, Cs; X = Cl, Br, I) composed of zero-dimensional [XBaRb/Cs] polycations and [BS] units, belonging to a new family, are rationally designed and fabricated. The compounds show an interesting structural transition from Pbcn (ABaBSCl) to Cmc2 (ABaBSBr and ABaBSI) driven by the clamping effect of polycationic frameworks.

The Fenton system was a generation system of reactive oxygen species via the chain reactions, which employed HO and O as radical precursors and Fe/Fe as electron-donor/acceptor for triggering or terminating the generation of radicals. Recent work mainly emphasized the Fe- activated HO and the application of in-situ generated OH, while neglecting other side-reactions. In this work, EDTA (Ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid) was employed as a chelating agent of iron ions, which simultaneously changed the redox property of coordinated iron.

Enhancing the absorption strength of electromagnetic waves and broadening the absorption band are constant goals in designing and preparing absorbing materials. The use of composites has shown to be a very efficient method for acquiring broadband-absorbing materials, while the construction of a core-shell structure has demonstrated a significant enhancement in absorption capability. In this paper, the nanocomposite metal-organic framework (MOF) derivative CoFeO@C with a double core-shell structure and the nanocomposite MOF derivative CoFeO@FeC@NiO with a three-layered core-shell structure have been prepared using a chemical compound.

The conventional carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) stabilization hampered available active sites of adsorption and reduction, due to irregular shape of nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI) particles with augmented average size and passivated surface, leading to insufficient removal and poor resistance against complex environmental conditions. Herein, we presented (2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl)-mediated (TEMPO-mediated) oxidation of cellulose nanocrystal (TOCNC) scaffolded nZVI (nZVI@TOCNC) with enhanced efficiency for chromium removal in comparison with CMC stabilized nZVI (nZVI@CMC). The anchoring of nZVI at the functional sites of TOCNC was initiated by liquid-phase chemical reduction method.

Rhythm is a key feature of music and language, but the way rhythm unfolds within each domain differs. Music induces perception of a beat, a regular repeating pulse spaced by roughly equal durations, whereas speech does not have the same isochronous framework. Although rhythmic regularity is a defining feature of music and language, it is difficult to derive acoustic indices of the differences in rhythmic regularity between domains.

The dominant Co locus controls the columnar growth phenotype of apple (Malus × domestica) trees. Candidate gene MdCo31, encoding 2-oxoglutarate-dependent dioxygenase, causes dwarf growth with short internodes in transgenic plants by reducing the abundance of biologically active gibberellin. However, the pathway regulating MdCo31 in the dwarfism of apple trees remains unclear.
