Effects of Exergame Training on Executive Function and Heart Rate Variability in Middle-Aged and Older Adults: A Randomized Controlled Study.

Exergame has become widely popular and offers great levels of cognitive demands, thus may facilitate cognitive benefits. In addition, researchers have proposed that cardiac autonomic function, assessed via heart rate variability (HRV), is associated with cognitive executive function. However, few exergame training studies have investigated this relationship.

Cognitive functioning in people with psychotic experiences: a systematic review and meta-analysis study.

Earlier research suggested that psychotic experiences (PEs), the extended-psychosis phenotype, are associated with cognitive impairment. Recent studies, however, revealed more mixed findings, and patterns and magnitude of cognitive deficits in PEs remain uncertain. We aimed to systematically review and quantitatively synthesize estimates of cognitive functioning covering a wide array of domains in individuals with versus without PEs.

The Lehigh Valley Health Network narcolepsy cohort: clinical and polysomnographic analysis of 304 cases.

Study Objective: We aimed to characterize clinical features, comorbidities and polysomnographic characteristics of a large cohort of patients with narcolepsy.

Methods: We undertook a retrospective chart and polysomnographic review of all patients with a diagnosis of narcolepsy type 1 (NT1) or narcolepsy type 2 (NT2) seen within the Lehigh Valley Health Network between 2000 and 2022.

Results: We found 304 cases with a diagnosis of narcolepsy (52 NT1, 252 NT2), based on , third edition criteria.

How can HIV self-testing facilitate increased access to HIV testing among multiply marginalised populations? Perspectives from GBMSM and trans women in England and Wales.

Background: HIV self-testing (HIVST) may facilitate marginalised populations' uptake of HIV testing, but whether the extent of marginalisation challenges individual uptake of HIVST remains under-researched. We aim to explore the perspectives of multiply marginalised cis-gender gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) and trans women on whether HIVST might increase their uptake of HIV testing.

Methods: We reanalysed qualitative interview data from SELPHI (the UK's largest HIVST randomised trial) collected between 2017 and 2020 from marginalised populations, defined as people self-identifying as non-heterosexual, transgender, non-White ethnicity and/or with low educational attainment.

Structure and fragmentation chemistry of the peptide radical cations of glycylphenylalanylglycine (GFG).

Herein, we explore the generation and characterization of the radical cations of glycylphenylalanylglycine, or [GFG]•+, formed via dissociative electron-transfer reaction from the tripeptide to copper(II) within a ternary complex. A comprehensive investigation employing isotopic labeling, infrared multiple-photon dissociation (IRMPD) spectroscopy, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations elucidated the details and energetics in formation of the peptide radical cations as well as their dissociation products. Unlike conventional aromatic-containing peptide radical cations that primarily form canonical π-radicals, our findings reveal that 75% of the population of the experimentally produced [GFG]•+ precursors are [GFα•G]+, where the radical resides on the middle α-carbon of the phenylalanyl residue.

FAIR enough: Building an academic data ecosystem to make real-world data available for translational research.

The Stanford Population Health Sciences Data Ecosystem was created to facilitate the use of large datasets containing health records from hundreds of millions of individuals. This necessitated technical solutions optimized for an academic medical center to manage and share high-risk data at scale. Through collaboration with internal and external partners, we have built a Data Ecosystem to host, curate, and share data with hundreds of users in a secure and compliant manner.

Experiences with health care services and HIV testing after sexual assault in cisgender gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men and transgender people.

Objectives: This qualitative sub-study aimed to explore how cisgender gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (cis-GBMSM) and transgender people who reported non-consensual sex (NCS) accessed health care services, what barriers they faced, and how this experience influenced subsequent HIV testing.

Methods: SELPHI is an online randomized controlled trial evaluating both acceptability and efficiency of HIV-self testing among cis-GBMSM and transgender people. Semi-structured interviews were conducted, audio-recorded, transcribed, and analysed through a framework analysis, as a qualitative sub-study.

Unraveling the role of the mitochondrial one-carbon pathway in undifferentiated thyroid cancer by multi-omics analyses.

The role of the serine/glycine metabolic pathway (SGP) has recently been demonstrated in tumors; however, the pathological relevance of the SGP in thyroid cancer remains unexplored. Here, we perform metabolomic profiling of 17 tumor-normal pairs; bulk transcriptomics of 263 normal thyroid, 348 papillary, and 21 undifferentiated thyroid cancer samples; and single-cell transcriptomes from 15 cases, showing the impact of mitochondrial one-carbon metabolism in thyroid tumors. High expression of serine hydroxymethyltransferase-2 (SHMT2) and methylenetetrahydrofolate dehydrogenase 2 (MTHFD2) is associated with low thyroid differentiation scores and poor clinical features.

Metatarsal sliding osteotomy is effective without altering plantar pressure in Morton's neuroma: Retrospective case series.

Background: Various operative methods for the treatment of Morton's neuroma have been discussed, and osteotomy of the metatarsal bone has been reported recently. However, there has been no report of pedobarographic changes after metatarsal osteotomy. Pedobarographic changes of other metatarsal area after the surgery may cause transfer metatarsalgia, and thorough analysis of the pedobarographic data should be performed peri-operatively.

Gels of Semiconducting Polymers in Benign Solvents.

Gels of semiconducting polymers have many potential applications, including biomedical devices and sensors. Here, we report a self-assembled gel system consisting of isoindigo-based semiconducting polymers with galactose side chains in benign, alcohol-based solvents. Because of the carbohydrate side chains, the modified isoindigo polymers are soluble in alcohols.

The Image-Histology Correlation of Subcutaneous mPEG-poly(Ala) Hydrogel-Embedded MIN6 Cell Grafts in Nude Mice.

Previously, we have successfully used noninvasive magnetic resonance (MR) and bioluminescence imaging to detect and monitor mPEG-poly(Ala) hydrogel-embedded MIN6 cells at the subcutaneous space for up to 64 days. In this study, we further explored the histological evolution of MIN6 cell grafts and correlated it with image findings. MIN6 cells were incubated overnight with chitosan-coated superparamagnetic iron oxide (CSPIO) and then 5 × 10 cells in the 100 μL hydrogel solution were injected subcutaneously into each nude mouse.

Adsorptive properties and on-demand magnetic response of lignin@FeO nanoparticles at castor oil-water interfaces.

Lignin@FeO nanoparticles adsorb at oil-water interfaces, form Pickering emulsions, induce on-demand magnetic responses to break emulsions, and can sequester oil from water. Lignin@FeO nanoparticles were prepared using a pH-induced precipitation method and were fully characterized. These were used to prepare Pickering emulsions with castor oil/Sudan red G dye and water at various oil/water volume ratios and nanoparticle concentrations.
