Age as an independent prognostic factor in patients with glioblastoma: a Radiation Therapy Oncology Group and American College of Surgeons National Cancer Data Base comparison.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is rare in early adulthood and little information is available on this subgroup. We investigated whether young age (18-30 years) had an independent effect on survival. We retrospectively reviewed patients from two large databases: Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) and American College of Surgeons National Cancer Data Base (NCDB).

Apolipoprotein E epsilon4 allele and outcomes of traumatic spinal cord injury.

Background/objective: To test the hypothesis that apolipoprotein E (APOE) polymorphisms are associated with outcomes after spinal cord injury (SCI).

Methods: Retrospective cohort study, from rehabilitation admission to discharge.

Participants: Convenience sample of 89 persons with cervical SCI (C3-C8) treated from 1995 through 2003.
