Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a potentially reducible cause of morbidity and mortality in patients undergoing elective hip arthroplasty surgery. The balance of post-operative VTE prophylaxis and risk of post-operative haemorrhage remains at the forefront of surgeon's mind. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) published updated guidelines in 2018 which recommend the use of both mechanical and pharmacological methods in patients undergoing elective total hip arthroplasty (THA).

Background: Current evidence supports the positive effect of adequate peri-implant mucosal thickness (PMT) on both marginal bone level stability and esthetic outcomes. While the subepithelial connective tissue graft (sCTG) has been traditionally considered as the gold standard for peri-implant mucosal augmentation, acellular dermal matrix (ADM) may be a valid alternative. The primary aim of this randomized clinical trial was to determine the clinical efficacy of ADM in the augmentation of PMT as compared to an autologous sCTG.

Objective: Traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) impacts quality of life for patients and caregivers, generating lifetime costs in the millions. Previous studies show delayed treatment of SCI patients at specialized centers is linked to complicated outcomes and extended hospitalizations. This study characterizes helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS) use in SCI and develops a methodology to study large volumes of HEMS electronic medical record data from multiple providers.
