Treatment with an aldosterone antagonist (AA) has been shown in multiple trials to reduce heart failure (HF)-related morbidity, mortality, and hospital readmission. American College of Cardiology Foundation (ACCF) and American Heart Association (AHA) treatment guidelines recommend the use of an AA in all HF patients with an ejection fraction ≤35% and no known contraindication. Several studies have documented underuse of AA.
