Secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (sHLH) is a rare hyperinflammatory disorder caused by an aberrant immune response to a number of infectious or inflammatory conditions. Successful treatment of this potentially fatal condition requires early recognition and prompt therapy directed at the underlying trigger. In this report, we describe the clinical presentation, diagnostic findings, management, and outcome of a child with Lemierre's syndrome-associated sHLH.

Although increasingly recognized in other lymphoproliferative disorders, cyclin D1 expression and CCND1 gene abnormalities have not been well studied in nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin lymphoma (NLPHL). Using a double stain for CD20/cyclin D1, we quantified cyclin D1 expression in 10 cases of NLPHL and correlated those findings with SOX11 expression, CCND1 gene abnormalities, and clinical data.

The transcription factor GATA3 is a recently described biomarker that is highly expressed in bladder and breast carcinomas. Although it has shown sensitivity as a marker of primary bladder carcinomas with purely urothelial differentiation, the ability of GATA3 to label primary bladder carcinomas with variant morphologic patterns has been incompletely assessed to date. The current study was designed to determine whether GATA3 staining is retained in "unconventional" bladder carcinomas.
