Resumption Of Medicaid Eligibility Redeterminations: Little Change In Overall Insurance Coverage.

In anticipation of the end of the COVID-19 public health emergency, Congress ended the Medicaid continuous coverage requirement on March 31, 2023, allowing states to terminate coverage for ineligible people and resume eligibility determinations through a process known as unwinding. Although administrative data have documented substantial declines in Medicaid enrollment since April 2023, the impact on uninsurance is unknown. Using data from the Census Bureau's Household Pulse Survey, we estimated the early effect of Medicaid unwinding on insurance coverage among people ages 19-64.

Challenges training left-handed surgeons.

Background: Being left-handed (LH) is considered a disadvantage in surgical training. We sought to understand the perspectives of LH trainees and surgical educators on the challenges and modifications in training LH surgeons.

Methods: A survey was distributed to surgeons, surgical residents, and medical students about challenges teaching and learning surgical technique.

Background: Chronic hepatitis C (CHC) is associated with substantial morbidity and mortality, with the future burden of disease predicted to significantly increase. The recent addition of 2 direct-acting antiviral (DAA) protease inhibitors, telaprevir and boceprevir, to peginterferon alfa (PEG) and ribavirin (RBV) therapy has been shown to significantly improve sustained virologic response rates and thus has become standard of care. While the efficacy and safety of DAAs has been assessed in the clinical trial setting, less is known about real-world use of these new therapies.
