Allogeneic transplantation of haematopoietic stem cells is still the only curative treatment for certain haematological malignancies. This treatment can be responsible for a number of side-effects, leading to multiple and interdependent physical and psychological deficiencies that affect patients' quality of life and social participation, and can be experienced as a handicap, sometimes for several years after the transplant. For several years now, the integration of post-transplant rehabilitation pathways has been becoming more widespread, and initiatives to provide multidisciplinary care at an increasingly early stage are being studied.

Prism adaptation effects in complex regional pain syndrome: A therapo-physiological single case experimental design exploratory report.

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) is an invalidating chronic condition that can occur after an acute peripheral lesion. Prism adaptation therapy is regarded as a promising tool to improve chronic pain in this syndrome but the mechanisms which lead to pain amelioration remain unknown. In this exploratory report we performed a retrospective analysis of longitudinal data collected from a single, atypical patient, who showed hyper-attention toward her affected (left) hand.

Regression of left hyperschematia after prism adaptation: A single case study.

Prism adaptation (PA) is a promising treatment in the rehabilitation of post-stroke cognitive disorders such as unilateral spatial neglect or constructional deficits. Right brain damage can bring about another representational spatial disorder, termed «hyperschematia», and defined by a left-sided disproportionate expansion of drawings by copy and from memory, and by an overestimation of left lateral extent when a leftward movement is required. This case study aimed at evaluating the effect of PA induced by prismatic lenses creating a shift to the left on hyperschematia signs.

Background: Mortality after liver resection has not decreased over the past decade.

Methods: The study population was a prospective cohort of hepatectomies performed at hepatic, pancreatic, and biliary (HPB) centers between October 2012 and December 2014.

Layered crystalline ZnInS nanosheets: CVD synthesis and photo-electrochemical properties.

Two-dimensional semiconductors with layer thicknesses of a few nanometers to tens of nanometers have attracted tremendous research interest due to their fascinating electrical, optical, and optoelectronic properties and technologically important applications. In this work, two dimensional ternary ZnInS nanosheets which self-assemble into microflowers have been synthesized through a feasible chemical vapour deposition process. High-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM) analysis reveals that the ZnInS nanostructure exhibits an extremely high phase purity and a single crystal nature free of dislocations, stacking faults or twins.

Left-deviating prism adaptation in left neglect patient: reflexions on a negative result.

Adaptation to right-deviating prisms is a promising intervention for the rehabilitation of patients with left spatial neglect. In order to test the lateral specificity of prism adaptation on left neglect, the present study evaluated the effect of left-deviating prism on straight-ahead pointing movements and on several classical neuropsychological tests in a group of five right brain-damaged patients with left spatial neglect. A group of healthy subjects was also included for comparison purposes.

Aripiprazole-induced pathological gambling: a report of 3 cases.

We report three cases of pathological gambling induced by aripiprazole, in patients with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder. All three patients had no history of pathological gambling, and they started gambling after initiation of treatment with Aripiprazole. The fact that pathological behaviour disappears quickly as medication was ended suggests that an elaborate behavioral manifestation could be related to dopaminergic tone in patients with schizophrenia.

Flow-through immunomagnetic separation system for waterborne pathogen isolation and detection: application to Giardia and Cryptosporidium cell isolation.

Simultaneous sample washing and concentration of two waterborne pathogen samples were demonstrated using a rotational magnetic system under continuous flow conditions. The rotation of periodically arranged small permanent magnets close to a fluidic channel carrying magnetic particle suspension allows the trapping and release of particles along the fluidic channel in a periodic manner. Each trapping and release event resembles one washing cycle.

Oral mucositis induced by anticancer treatments: physiopathology and treatments.

Oral mucositis is a frequent and devastating side effect of anticancer treatments. It impairs the patient's quality of life and also can be life threatening because severe infections and delayed or incomplete anticancer treatments may result. This problem has been largely overlooked and underestimated in the past.

DNA synthesis in isolated mitochondria and mitochondrial extracts from wheat embryos.

DNA synthesis was studied using purified wheat embryo mitochondria as well as mitochondrial lysates deprived of endogenous DNA. The optimal conditions for DNA synthesis are very similar in both systems: ATP stimulates dramatically mitochondrial DNA synthesis and magnesium is a better co-factor than manganese, contrary to what has been reported in animal mitochondrial systems. Wheat mitochondrial DNA synthesis is resistant to aphidicolin and strongly inhibited by dideoxythymidine triphosphate and ethidium bromide.
