Article Synopsis
  • - The study examined the impact of using a compression dressing (CD) on recovery outcomes like swelling (edema), bruising (ecchymosis), pain, scarring, and overall aesthetic results after upper eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty).
  • - Results showed no significant differences in edema, scar appearance, or aesthetic ratings between the sides with and without the CD at different follow-up periods, and most patients found the side without the CD more comfortable.
  • - The conclusion suggests that using a CD post-surgery does not offer benefits for recovery, and it can be safely skipped without affecting the surgical outcomes.

Background: We aimed to investigate the effect of compression dressing on edema, ecchymosis, pain, and ocular surface irritation after ptosis surgery.

Methods: After ptosis correction [anterior levator reinsertion (and resection) (ALR), if necessary additional blepharoplasty], the eye was randomized for compression dressing or transparent eye shield. Edema and ecchymosis were scored on a four-point rating scale by a blinded observer 1 day (D1), 1 week (D7), and 8 weeks (D56) after surgery; the same was done for scar formation regarding redness and bulging at D7 and D56.

Background: Graves' orbitopathy (GO) is subject to epidemiological and care-related changes. Aim of the survey was to identify trends in presentation of GO to the European Group On Graves' Orbitopathy (EUGOGO) tertiary referral centres and initial management over time.

Methods: Prospective observational multicentre study.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed 117 patients with histologically confirmed eyelid squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) at a German university, focusing on epidemiological features, treatment outcomes, and risk factors over an 11-year period.
  • Histologically controlled excision was performed in 75.2% of cases, revealing higher recurrence rates in males, those with multiple lesions, and advanced T-category, while overall disease-specific survival (DSS) was high at 95.7% at 2 years.
  • The research highlighted the AJCC 8 classification system's improved accuracy in predicting DSS, showing discrepancies with the previous AJCC 7 system, particularly in older patients and those with specific tumor locations.

Purpose: The aim of this research was to investigate the subclinical findings of dysthyroid optic neuropathy (DON) and to look for early indicators for optic nerve compression in patients with Graves' orbitopathy.

Patients And Methods: In this observational, retrospective study, the medical charts of 24 patients (32 eyes) with a diagnosis of DON between 2008 and 2019 were included. Our goal was to identify potential pathological signs in patients with DON prior to the definitive diagnosis of DON.

Objective: To assess clinical and radiological performance of combined positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) in patients with secondary and primary intraorbital tumours.

Methods: 14 adults with secondary and 1 child with primary orbital masses underwent combined whole-body PET/CT. Radiopharmaceutical tracers applied were (18F)-fluorodeoxyglucose, (18F)-fluoroethylcholine (FEC) and (68Ga)-DOTATATE.

Objective: To evaluate the efficiency of series of 6-week treatments with brief intervals (6-week = 1 cycle) of topical Interferon α-2b (IFNα-2b) treatment in primary acquired melanosis (PAM) with atypia and melanoma of the conjunctiva.

Patients And Methods: Five patients with biopsy-proven PAM with atypia and seven patients with melanoma of the conjunctiva, treated with topical IFNα-2b (1 million units/ml, 5 times daily), were included in the study. All patients had colour photographs and the tumour area was measured manually for each patient before and after treatment.

Purpose: To compare the extent of mucosal margins remaining unsutured at the end of external dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) using single or double flap techniques and to evaluate the influence on outcome.

Design: Prospective, consecutive case series.

Methods: The number and length of mucosal margins remaining unsutured at the end of external DCR were evaluated in 64 patients.
