Oligometastatic breast cancer treated with hypofractionated stereotactic radiotherapy: Some patients survive longer than a decade.

Background: The clinical state of oligometastases describes metastases limited in number and extent, amenable to metastasis-directed therapy. We sought to analyze long-term outcomes and characterize potential prognostic factors, in women with breast cancer (BC) oligometastases treated with hypofractionated stereotactic radiation (HSRT) therapy on a prospective phase II protocol.

Methods: Forty-eight women with 1-5 extracranial BC oligometastases received HSRT to all radiographically apparent sites of disease.

Brain metastasis from melanoma: the prognostic value of varying sites of extracranial disease.

Patients with brain metastasis from melanoma have poor outcomes. Radiation is used both for prognostic and symptomatic value. Flap Endonuclease 1 (FEN1) plays important roles both in DNA replication and in base excision repair (BER). However, in both processes FEN1 substrates are likely to be assembled into chromatin. In order to examine how FEN1 is able to work within chromatin, we prepared model nucleosome substrates containing FEN1-cleavable DNA flaps.
