Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the AAP's CCHD screening algorithm in newborns and explore the potential of an alternative approach.
  • The AAP algorithm resulted in a very high specificity (99.96%) but low sensitivity (14.3%), indicating that it correctly identified most healthy infants while missing many cases of congenital heart disease.
  • Simulations of a modified screening method suggested it could maintain sensitivity while slightly increasing the false-positive rate, potentially improving the detection of significant newborn diseases.
