Development of an interactive e-learning software "Histologie für Mediziner" for medical histology courses and its overall impact on learning outcomes and motivation.

To develop and evaluate an interactive histology learning software for medical students in the preclinical study phase. The educational design of the software was based on current learning theory models, such as the , and the model, so that the acquired knowledge can be repeated using a diversified design. Moreover, the learning effects achieved by using the software shall be evaluated.

Expression and purification of neurolin immunoglobulin domain 2 from Carrassius auratus (goldfish) in Escherichia coli.

The immunoglobulin superfamily protein neurolin plays a central role during differentiation and development of retina ganglion cells in goldfish. As shown in earlier work, blockage of the second immunoglobulin domain (Ig2) of neurolin with domain-specific antibodies causes severe pathfinding defects of growing axons in the retina. Thus Ig2 of neurolin was identified as the critical domain for axon guidance.

Columnar and smectic liquid crystals based on crown ethers.

Unsymmetrical benzo[15]crown-5 ethers 5 with one lateral ortho-terphenyl unit bearing alkoxy side chains of varying chain lengths (C5-C14) were prepared from 3,4-dialkoxyphenylbromides 2. Complexation with metal salts MX (M = Na, Cs) afforded the corresponding derivatives MX5. The uncomplexed crown ethers 5 h and 5 i, with dodecyloxy and tetradecyloxy side chains, respectively, exhibit liquid crystalline properties.
