β-Lactones: A Novel Class of Ca-Independent Phospholipase A (Group VIA iPLA) Inhibitors with the Ability To Inhibit β-Cell Apoptosis.

Ca-independent phospholipase A (GVIA iPLA) has gained increasing interest recently as it has been recognized as a participant in biological processes underlying diabetes development and autoimmune-based neurological disorders. The development of potent GVIA iPLA inhibitors is of great importance because only a few have been reported so far. We present a novel class of GVIA iPLA inhibitors based on the β-lactone ring.

Synthesis of Long-Chain β-Lactones and Their Antibacterial Activities against Pathogenic Mycobacteria.

In the quest for new antibacterial agents, a series of novel long- and medium-chain mono- and disubstituted β-lactones was developed. Their activity against three pathogenic mycobacteria-M. abscessus, M.
