Pandemic response: The identification of alternative clinical hours to ensure advanced practice nursing students meet program requirements.

The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic resulted in the abrupt withdrawal of clinical sites for advanced practice nursing students which worsened an already challenging placement process. Few studies to date have analyzed the use of alternative clinical practice experiences used to facilitate the completion of program requirements by advanced practice nursing students beyond direct hour requirements. The faculty team from one university decided to track and analyze their use of alternative clinical practice experiences for advanced practice nursing students actively enrolled during the first semester of the pandemic.

Innovative Opportunities for Nurse Practitioner Education Uncovered by the Pandemic.

Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic resulted in the abrupt withdrawal of clinical sites for nurse practitioner (NP) students during the Spring semester of 2020. This situation necessitated the identification of innovative clinical opportunities to ensure advanced practice nursing students met course objectives and program requirements.

Method: This article describes innovative clinical opportunities that met the needs of the community, including those impacted by the pandemic, and enabled NP students' progression toward completing clinical requirements.

Recruitment Issues in Emerging Adult Populations: Focus on Adult Congenital Heart Disease.

High-quality nursing research is important to healthcare and is precipitated by successful participant recruitment. Young adults aged 18 to 30 years are particularly difficult to recruit due to transitions during this time, which makes it more problematic to locate these individuals and may make it more difficult for them to prioritize the need for participation. This paper includes data from two cross-sectional survey design pilot studies that aimed to enroll young adults with congenital heart disease using a variety of recruitment methods.

Self-management Needs of Adults With Congenital Heart Disease.

Background: Adults with congenital heart disease (CHD) are an emerging adult heart disease subset, now outnumbering the pediatric population with CHD.

Objective: We aimed to gain understanding and knowledge of what adults with CHD perceive as important for self-management and describe these needs across demographic factors, developmental characteristics, lesion severity, and quality of life.

Methods: We used a descriptive mixed-methods online survey merging 4 instruments: Adult CHD Self-management Experience Questionnaire; Adult CHD Demographic Questionnaire; Adaptive Behavior Assessment System, Third Edition; and Stanford Quality of Life Visual Numeric.

Psychometrics of the Gratitude Questionnaire-6 in African-Americans at Risk for Cardiovascular Disease.

Psychometrics of the Gratitude Questionnaire-6, which measures dispositional gratitude, was originally estimated in healthy college students. The purpose of this study was to examine the scales' factor structure, convergent/divergent validity, and reliability among 298 AA adults at risk for CVD in the community. Analyses were performed using bivariate correlations, exploratory factor analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis.

Benefits and Shortcomings of Direct-to-Consumer Hearing Devices: Analysis of Large Secondary Data Generated From Amazon Customer Reviews.

Purpose The current study was aimed at understanding the benefits and shortcomings of direct-to-consumer hearing devices (DCHDs) by analyzing the large text corpus of secondary data generated from Amazon customer reviews. Method Secondary data were generated manually by gathering user feedback for 62 different DCHDs (cost range: $9.95-$635) on the Amazon.
