Article Synopsis
- Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a treatment for high-risk patients with severe aortic valve stenosis, with atrial fibrillation (AF) being common among them, increasing the risk of bleeding complications due to anticoagulation therapy.
- A study of 283 TAVR patients showed that those with AF experienced nearly three times more major vascular complications and life-threatening bleeding compared to those with normal sinus rhythm.
- Patients with AF also had significantly higher overall mortality rates within the first month and year after the procedure, indicating the need for further research into optimal anticoagulation strategies.
