Achieving net-zero climate targets requires some level of carbon dioxide removal. Current assessments focus on tonnes of CO removed, without specifying what form these removals will take. Here, we show that countries' climate pledges require approximately 1 (0.

Tracheostomy decannulation leaves an iatrogenic passage in the upper airways. Inadequate sealing leads to pulmonary dysfunction and reduced voice quality. This study aimed to investigate the feasibility and impact of intratracheal tracheostomy sealing on laryngeal airflow and voice quality immediately after decannulation (ClinicalTrials.

Predicting the edges of species distributions is fundamental for species conservation, ecosystem services, and management decisions. In North America, the location of the upstream limit of fish in forested streams receives special attention, because fish-bearing portions of streams have more protections during forest management activities than fishless portions. We present a novel model development and evaluation framework, wherein we compare 26 models to predict upper distribution limits of trout in streams.

Introduction: Patient education can facilitate early cancer diagnosis, enhance treatment adherence, and improve outcomes. While there is increasing cancer burden in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), there is little research to inform successful patient education in these regions. This systematic review summarizes the existing literature on oncology education and evaluation strategies in LMICs, identifies best practices, and highlights areas which require further investigation.

Background: Demographic, economic and organisational changes challenge home care services. Increased use of welfare technology and involvement of family members as co-producers of care are political initiatives to meet these challenges. However, these initiatives also involve ethical aspects.

Background: Prolonged healing of tracheostomy after decannulation has a negative impact on respiration, hygiene, cosmetics, and social life. Even so, evidence-based observations of tracheostoma healing time are lacking. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine tracheostomy wound healing time after decannulation.

Purpose: The huge loss of ovarian follicles after transplantation of frozen/thawed ovarian tissue is considered a major drawback on the efficacy of the procedure. Here we investigate whether Er:YAG laser treatment prior to xenotransplantation can improve re-vascularization and subsequently follicle survival in human ovarian tissue.

Methods: A total of 99 frozen/thawed human ovarian cortex pieces were included of which 72 pieces from 12 woman were transplanted to immunodeficient mice.

The amphibian chytrid fungus () is a skin pathogen that can cause the emerging infectious disease chytridiomycosis in susceptible species. It has been considered one of the most severe threats to amphibian biodiversity. We aimed to provide an updated compilation of global occurrences by host taxon and geography, and with the larger global dataset we reanalyzed associations with environmental metrics at the world and regional scales.

Setting: As of June 10, 2020, 37 people experiencing homelessness or unstable housing in Calgary, Alberta, had developed lab-confirmed COVID-19. Spread occurred despite standard outbreak controls at affected shelter and supportive housing sites. Among these 37 cases, drink sharing was frequently identified as a modifiable mode of possible transmission.

Despite their representativeness, most studies to date have underestimated the amount of microfibers (MFs) in the marine environment. Therefore, further research is still necessary to identify key processes governing MF distribution. Here, the interaction among surface water temperature, salinity, currents and winds explained the patterns of MF accumulation.

Twice-daily (BID) insulin injections are a major deterrence to owners treating dogs with diabetes mellitus (DM). The hypothesis for this study was that Protamine Zinc Recombinant Human Insulin (PZIR) is safe and efficacious as a once-daily (SID) treatment for canine DM. This was a prospective, baseline-controlled, multi-center study over 182 ± 5 d.

Bacteria contain a diverse set of RNAs to provide tight regulation of gene expression in response to environmental stimuli. Bacterial small RNAs (sRNAs) work in conjunction with protein cofactors to bind complementary mRNA sequences in the cell, leading to up- or downregulation of protein synthesis. In vivo imaging of sRNAs can aid in understanding their spatiotemporal dynamics in real time, which inspires new ways to manipulate these systems for a variety of applications including synthetic biology and therapeutics.

Objective: To summarize an innovative initiative in oncology nurse workforce development that addresses critical current and future gaps and encompasses use of dedicated education units for student nurse rotation and a transition-to-practice residency program.

Data Sources: Review of institutional data including original pilot analysis and ongoing programmatic metrics (N=8 years), consensus, professional guidelines, and published literature.

Conclusion: The dedicated education unit serves as a conduit for recruitment into institutional oncology nurse residency positions, and retention rates in the residency program continue to exceed national averages.

Aim: To explore the visibility of nursing in policy documents concerning health care priorities in the Nordic countries.

Background: Nurses at all levels in health care organisations set priorities on a daily basis. Such prioritization entails allocation of scarce public resources with implications for patients, nurses and society.

Obesity prevalence is high in Native American (NA) adults, and there is a critical need to establish and implement evidence-based social, behavioral, and policy interventions that are theoretically informed. The use of multilevel, multicomponent (MLMC) interventions has been shown to be an effective strategy for comprehensive health behavior change; however, there is little guidance available in the literature to facilitate implementation in this underserved and understudied population. To decrease obesity and related comorbidities in NA adults, an MLMC intervention called OPREVENT (Obesity Prevention and Evaluation of InterVention Effectiveness in NaTive North Americans) was implemented in 5 rural NA communities to modify the food-purchasing environment, improve diet, and increase physical activity (PA).

Introduction: Premature ejaculation (PE) is among the most common sexual dysfunctions that affect men. Currently, topical medications are considered a first-line treatment option for PE, with no specific medication having market approval in the United States specifically for the treatment of PE. Topical agents for PE include eutectic mixture of local anesthetics cream, topical eutectic mixture for premature ejaculation spray, severance secret-cream, resiniferatoxin, and an assortment of over-the-counter treatments, including medicated condoms, sprays, and wipes.

Sexual problems are common in women of all ages. Despite their frequency and impact, female sexual dysfunctions (FSDs) are often unrecognized and untreated in clinical settings. In response, the International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health convened a multidisciplinary, international expert panel to develop a process of care (POC) that outlines recommendations for identification of sexual problems in women.

  • The Home Visit Rating Scales (HOVRS) are designed to assess the quality of home visits, focusing on relationship building, responsiveness to family strengths, parent-child interaction, and collaboration with parents.* -
  • The latest version, HOVRS-3, was refined for better clarity and usability, and was validated using archived video data, showing strong reliability and validity indicators.* -
  • Higher scores on the HOVRS-3 correlated with improved parenting and child language outcomes, suggesting its effectiveness in enhancing home-visiting practices in early childhood programs.*

In estuaries, land-surface and tidal elevation conspire to influence the amount of salt-water inundation in a specific location, ultimately affecting the distribution of estuary vegetation. Plants vary in their tolerances to salinity and inundation. Understanding even small changes in land-surface elevation at a site scale provides relevant information to managers seeking to design effective long-term restoration projects.

Background: Non-invasive methods are the first choice for liver fibrosis evaluation in chronic liver diseases, but few studies investigate the ability of combined methods to predict outcomes.

Methods: 591 chronic hepatitis C patients with baseline liver stiffness (LSM) by FibroScan and hyaluronic acid measurements were identified retrospectively. The patients were grouped by baseline LSM: < 10kPa, 10-16.
