Background: This project aims to develop a new concept in training pediatric cardiologists to meet the requirements of interventional cardiac catheterizations today in terms of complexity and importance. This newly developed hands-on training program is supposed to enable the acquisition of certain skills which are necessary when investigating and treating patients in a catheter laboratory.
Methods: Based on anonymous CT-scans of pediatric patients' digital 3D heart models with or without cardiac defects were developed and printed three-dimensionally in a flexible material visible under X-ray.
Objectives: To formally establish the relationship between oxycodone dissolution, in vitro, from a prolonged-release, oral, combination of oxycodone and naloxone (OXN PR) tablets with in vivo absorption, by developing a validated Level A in vitro/in vivo correlation (IVIVC) and subsequently ascertaining the temporal absorption of oxycodone during gastrointestinal transit.
Methods: In vitro dissolution data from formulations of OXN PR (20/10 mg) tablets with slow, medium and fast dissolution rates were generated using United States Pharmacopeia I apparatus 2 (paddle at 50 rpm) in simulated gastric fluid, pH 1.2.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the efficacy and safety of endocardial radiofrequency ablation of septal hypertrophy (ERASH) for left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) gradient reduction in hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM).
Background: Anatomic variability of the vessels supplying the obstructing septal bulge can limit the efficacy of transcoronary ablation of septal hypertrophy in HOCM. Previous studies showed that inducing a local contraction disorder without reducing septal mass results in effective gradient reduction.
Background: Catheter-based treatment of patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM) by alcohol ablation (transcoronary ablation of septal hypertrophy, TASH) leads to symptomatic and haemodynamic improvement. However, little is known regarding the survival and its evolution since the introduction of the method in 1995. Theoretically, the method may be harmful, because widening of the obstructed left ventricular outflow tract is achieved by a septal infarction and subsequently by a potentially arrhythmogenic scar.

Background: Transcoronary ablation of septal hypertrophy is an accepted therapeutic option in hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM). However, atrioventricular conduction disorders, requiring permanent pacemaker implantation, remain a major adverse effect.
Introduction: Transcoronary ablation of septal hypertrophy (TASH) is safe and effectively reduces the intraventricular gradient in patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM). To analyze the potential of anti- and proarrhythmic effects of TASH, we studied the discharge rates of implanted cardioverter defibrillators (ICD) in patients with HOCM who are at a high risk for sudden cardiac death.
Methods: ICD and TASH were performed in 15 patients.
The objective of this study was to test various aspects of dissolution media simulating the intralumenal composition of the small intestine, including the suitability of the osmolality-adjusting agents and of the buffers, the substitution of crude sodium taurocholate (from ox bile) for pure sodium taurocholate and the substitution of partially hydrolysed soybean phosphatidylcholine for egg phosphatidylcholine. It was concluded that biorelevant media should contain sodium as the major cation species to better reflect the physiology. However, the use of non-physiologically relevant buffers is inevitable, especially for simulation of the fed state in the small intestine.

Methods: Extrudates were prepared using a corotating twin-screw hot-stage extruder with fixed process parameters. Modulated-temperature differential scanning calorimetry (MTDSC) and DSC 111 were used to examine the mixing behavior of itraconazole and the carrier by evaluation of the glass transition region.
Background: Transcoronary ablation of septal hypertrophy (TASH) for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy seems to be an effective alternative to surgical myectomy. It remains a point of debate whether an outflow obstruction at rest is a necessary criterion for interventional therapy.
Methods And Results: TASH was compared in 45 consecutive patients with no resting gradient and a provocable gradient of > or =30 mm Hg (group I) and in 84 consecutive patients with a resting gradient of > or =30 mm Hg (80+/-33 mm Hg) (group II).
