Acute pancreatitis among the pediatric population can result from genetic disorders, anatomic anomalies, gallstones, trauma, and medications; trauma and idiopathic causes being the most common. Although chronic pancreatitis presents with increased severe long-term complications, acute pancreatitis presents with its share of complications such as fistulas, pseudocysts, and venous abnormalities. With an increase in hospitalization rates of acute pancreatitis among the pediatric population, the importance of understanding rare complications and how to further recognize these complications can aid in the diagnosis, medical management, and intervention necessary to optimize a patient's outcome.

An otherwise healthy 13-month-old male presented with persistent fever and cheilitis as his initial findings of COVID-19 in April 2020 prior to the discovery and classification of the multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C). Clinical symptoms of COVID-19 are still evolving in the pediatric population, ranging from being asymptomatic to varied symptoms, such as fever, abdominal pain, and myocarditis.

Methods: Resting state fMRI data was collected from three groups of children aged 6-13, including new onset drug naïve BECTS, chronic BECTS with medication, and HC; the data analyzed by ReHo method. Mandarin school exams scores were acquired and compared across groups.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFPurpose: The purpose of the present study was to identify abnormal areas of regional synchronization in patients with mesial temporal lobe epilepsy and hippocampus sclerosis (mTLE-HS) compared to healthy controls, by applying a relatively novel method, the Regional Homogeneity (ReHo) method to resting state fMRI (RS-fMRI) data.
Methods: Eyes closed RS-fMRI data were acquired from 10 mTLE-HS patients (four right-side, six left-side) and 15 age- and gender-matched healthy subjects, and were analyzed by using ReHo. For group analysis, four right-side MTLE-HS patients' functional images were flipped, in order to make a homogeneous left MTLE-HS group (10 cases) and increase the sample size.
There are several magnetic resonance (MR) imaging techniques that benefit from high-field MR imaging. This article describes a range of novel techniques that are currently being used clinically or will be used in the future for clinical purposes as they gain popularity. These techniques include functional MR imaging, diffusion tensor imaging, cortical thickness assessment, arterial spin labeling perfusion, white matter hyperintensity lesion assessment, and advanced MR angiography.
