An dual-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy on both transition-metal ordered and disordered LiNiMnO during electrochemical delithiation and lithiation was carried out. The large data set was analyzed via a chemometric approach to gain reliable insights into the redox activity and the local structural changes of Ni and Mn throughout the electrochemical charge and discharge reaction. Our findings confirm that redox activity relies predominantly on the Ni redox couple involving a transient Ni phase.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTwo water-soluble binders of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and sodium alginate (SA) have been studied in comparison with N-methylpyrrolidone-soluble poly(vinylidene difluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVdF-HFP) to understand their effect on the electrochemical performance of a high-voltage lithium nickel manganese oxide (LNMO) cathode. The electrochemical performance has been investigated in full cells using a Li Ti O (LTO) anode. At room temperature, LNMO cathodes prepared with aqueous binders provided a similar electrochemical performance as those prepared with PVdF-HFP.
