Proximal humerus fractures are characterized by their frequency, the difficulties and the absence of treatment of reference. New means of osteosynthesis appeared since the years 2000, as well as the preferential recourse to the reversed prostheses of shoulder. Introduction: There are multiple surgical treatment methods for proximal humerus fractures (PHF), but rarely do they provide satisfactory results. Materials And Methods: This is an observational multicenter study cohort conducted between March 2008 and December 2009 on 105 patients admitted with a diagnosis of PHF and operated on two trauma I centers.

AST classification of proximal humeral fractures: introduction and interobserver reliability assessment.

Background: This article introduces an alphanumeric AST (Articular, Surgical neck, Tuberosities) classification of proximal humeral fractures, based on the number, localization, and displacement of articular and extra-articular fragments. All possible cases of proximal humeral fractures can be assessed from a single figure using this classification. The aim of the study was thus to describe the AST classification and to assess interobserver reliability.

Importance of patient satisfaction with care in predicting osteoarthritis-specific health-related quality of life one year after total joint arthroplasty.

Purpose: After previous results observed with a generic health-related quality of life (HRQoL) instrument, we aimed to confirm that immediate postoperative patient satisfaction with care predicts self-perceived health 1 year after total hip replacement/total knee replacement (THR/TKR), using an osteoarthritis (OA)-specific HRQoL questionnaire.

Methods: This was a French multicenter prospective cohort study of patients after THR/TKR. HRQoL was assessed by the OsteoArthritis Knee and Hip Quality Of Life (OAKHQOL) instrument before and after surgery and satisfaction with care by the Quality of Care Scale (QCS).

Total hip or knee replacement for osteoarthritis: mid- and long-term quality of life.

Objective: To compare quality of life (QOL) scores 3 and 10 years after total hip arthroplasty (THA) or total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for osteoarthritis with QOL scores in a general population, and to determine factors associated with QOL after surgery.

Methods: Data were obtained from 2 multicenter cohorts of patients with THA or TKA: 232 patients were recruited during 2003 (3-year cohort) and 221 patients were recruited during 1994 (10-year cohort). Preoperative data (QOL, radiograph results) and followup data (demographics, comorbidities, pain locations, environmental factors, and QOL) were collected.

Background: Inpatient satisfaction with care is a standard indicator of the quality of care delivered during hospitalization. Total hip and knee replacement (THR/TKR) for osteoarthritis (OA) are among the most successful orthopaedic interventions having a positive impact on health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The aim was to evaluate the effect of satisfaction shortly after hospital discharge on 1-month, 6-month and 1-year Medical Outcomes Study 36-item Short Form (SF-36) scores for OA patients after THR and TKR, controlling for patient characteristics, clinical presentation and preoperative SF-36 scores.

The Telegraph nail for proximal humeral fractures: a prospective four-year study.
