The ability of extensively drug-resistant (XDR) Klebsiella pneumoniae to rapidly acquire resistance to novel antibiotics is a global concern. Moreover, Klebsiella clonal lineages that successfully combine resistance and hypervirulence have increasingly occurred during the last years.
